"Jims Plumbing Now was referred by my foundation repair company. Technician came out and performed a test in drain and water. Both passed and foundation company gave me a lifetime warranty on foundation work. Will use them in future if I need a plumber."

"Fast next day service, knowledgeable service technician, did the evaluation and install the same day. Ready and willing to go to work, from the scheduler on the phone to the service technician on site. I had a water heater replaced and brought up to code. The price seemed incredibly fair as opposed to previous quotes from other plumbers. They put down floor protection and left the job clean and finished. I have no complaints, it was all good."

"The job went smoothly and was completed in about 5 days. Another construction crew was working next door and also using our driveway. Both crews worked co-operatively and (to my knowledge) no conflict arose. Paul Alvarez is highly dependable, very professional. His crew is also good. Paul was on the job with his crew nearly all the time. They pressure washed the whole house first. Then Paul repaired the carport. When he removed water damaged carport siding, he found a major beam was badly water damaged also. Due to this unanticipated damage, the amount of repair work was more extensive than estimated. Paul built alternate supports to secure the roof while he removed and replaced the damaged beam. He changed the configuration of the siding and used Hardy Board instead of wood where there would be heavy rain runoff. He called in a roofer to correct some problems with the existing standing seam metal roof on the carport. Due to incorrect installation years ago, the roof was not performing as it should. Paul's roofer contact made corrections, securing the drip edge, sealing it, and making & installing needed end caps. Paul added drip edge metal along the side of the carport, to protect trim board. They also replaced a deteriorated window ledge and a trim piece on a gable end. The cement porch was scraped and repainted; one porch was painted and one was watersealed. All in all, the repair work looks really good and appears likely to hold up far better than before. The crew cleaned up the entire area and stowed tools daily. At the end of the job they moved all debris out to the curb for city pickup, after making sure the city would pick it up soon. Paul discussed every step with me and also with my husband, making sure we understood everything he did and we agreed with the plan. The whole house looks the best it ever has. In fact, since the job was complete, two unrelated passersby have complimented the appearance of the house! I'm very happy."

Foundation Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

Submersible and pedestal sump pumps are two popular types of sump pumps. Submersible models are covered by water in a sump pit, which helps keep the motor cooler and quieter. Pedestal sump pumps stick out of the sump pit, so the motor stays dry and is easier to access. Submersible sump pumps are the pricier option, but they also have longer life spans.

If you hire a professional, installing a new sewage ejector pump costs $850 to $3,500, or an average of $2,300. Otherwise, if you handle the installation yourself, you can expect to pay $500 to $1,000 for the sewage ejector pump, permits, and other supplies required for this DIY project.

There are a few possible sump pump drainage locations, including a neighborhood storm drain, into a creek or pond, or underground. Don’t let your sump pump water go into your sewer or septic system. Ideally, your drainage spot should be on a downhill slope that’s at least 10 to 20 feet away from your home’s foundation. Before choosing a location, check your local codes and regulations.

Whether to waterproof your basement from the interior or exterior depends on several factors, including your budget.

Exterior waterproofing is generally considered the superior method because it stops water at the source, preventing it from seeping into and damaging your basement walls. This approach offers the most protection, making it ideal if you use your basement for storage.

By contrast, interior waterproofing is often less expensive and requires less labor because the area is more accessible.

For maximum protection against water leakage and moisture, applying waterproofing measures to both the inside and outside is the best solution. However, if you must choose only one, stopping water from the outside is the most effective approach to preserve your foundation and prevent damage.

Thankfully, you do have a few sump pump backup options in case it fails. One option is a battery-powered backup sump pump. Another option is using a portable backup generator as a power supply for your sump pump. Unlike a battery-powered backup which has limited power, a generator can run around the clock for as long as you need it.

Or you can opt for a water-powered backup pump, which uses your home’s water supply as a source of power. However, this may not be the best option if you find your house frequently has low water pressure.
