"We were thrilled with the work Mike did. He was within our budget and the project he finished for us exceeded our expectations. Some things Mike offers, that sets him apart from other professionals is his communication, reliability, attention to detail and designing. We couldn’t have been more pleased with his services and end product. I felt as if he was treating the project the same way he would have completed a project for his own home. He did stone edging, helped with the design and plant choices, excavated our previous beds, drainage, added soil, added plants, mulch and a DG flagstone path to the front house for us. It’s been a total transformation to the house and we were so pleased with his services. Highly recommend."

"Porters Roofing exceeded our expectations. Nick and his crew are professional and skilled who rose and thrived to a few challenges faced on our home. They took care of us from the inspection all the way to clean up. Nick really took the extra miles to make it the best possible experience for us. We couldn't be more satisfied with our beautiful roof and I would highly reccomend any further work needed to Porters roofing/remodeling."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

After you successfully remove your boulder, you have a few options for what to do to get rid of it. You can rent a dumpster if your yard has many boulders or if you’re planning a larger project. You can even save the boulder and reuse it elsewhere on your property to save on landscaping costs. A few ideas include using the boulder as a natural, abstract statue, breaking it into smaller pieces to line your garden bed, or offering it to a landscaping company that could reuse it for another project.

Almost any kind of home can have a wine cellar or cabinet installed. You’ll need an area where a concrete floor can be put in, along with the necessary insulation, climate control, and ventilation systems. If you think of yourself as an aspiring sommelier, an underground wine cellar may be ideal, but it will cost significantly more.

What you choose to install really depends on your budget and how many bottles you’re looking to store.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.

A crawl space can be as little as 42 inches below the grade of your house, but this is not always recommended in flood-prone areas. At a minimum, there must be at least 16 inches of clearance between the ground and the floor joists to access the space in an emergency.

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.
