Maryland Sunrooms/Four Seasons Sunrooms
5.0
We had known for a while that we intended to get a sunroom, and looked at Maryland Sunrooms as well as Patio Enclosures and a general contractor. For the quality and price we were looking for Maryland Sunrooms was clearly above the competition, and we never regretted going with them. From our initial discussions with them, through signing the contract, all the way to the completion of the project and beyond what we appreciated most was that we were able to always communicate directly with Mike, the owner, and Pete, our project supervisor and they were always responsive and helpful. On top of that, we were beyond impressed and pleased with Saul, who actually did almost the entire construction himself besides pouring the slab and running the electrical, which they subcontract out. He's incredibly talented and was so wonderfully easy to work with, which was especially important as we were coordinating siding and gutters contractors and plumbers as well to do work in conjunction with the sunroom. The final result is simply stunning, and we have no regrets at all about a year out. We'd happily recommend Maryland Sunrooms to anyone.

EVERGREEN CONTRACTING SERVICES LLC

We had a great experience with David and his team, Adam and (another) David. He came out to give us a quote within 24 hours of calling and was able to start replacing our sunroom floor within a week. David gave us great suggestions when we were choosing the new flooring material, and he and his crew were awesome when we came across a few hiccups (namely, a family of raccoons living under the floor they were tearing out). They took it in stride and made the modifications to seal up the places where our uninvited guests were coming in. His crew was always on time, always professional, and they did a really great job. We're already planning to work with Evergreen again.

We had Elite build us a Sunroom Addition that had a lot of special order materials and unique challenges based on the particular configuration our space. Elite was very professional and did an excellent job on this project, especially their finishing work. Elite worked with multiple vendors and installers to pull everything together for our space. While there were some bumps along the way, as is the case with every construction project, Elite made sure that any problems were addressed quickly and correctly making this one of the best contracting experiences we have had. Our new space is better than we envisioned and has already provided countless hours of enjoyment for our family. Thank you Elite!

Michael Nash Design Build & Homes

Great...My aging, flat roofed sunroom needed to be replaced. Michael Nash designed and built a new addition that exceeded all my expectations. The high end material, expert craftsmanship, and holistic approach to the project management were key to the outstanding success of this effort. I now have a beautiful new room that is seamlessly integrated into my home’s floor plan. It was well worth the wait! I would definitely hire Michael Nash again.

Phoenix Home Services Inc

When Clint and I first met to discuss my vague idea for a project, the thing that struck me was that he listened, and he listened hard. I wasn’t sure of exactly what I was trying to do, so he asked questions and we developed the project together. Being able to see a 3D rendering was very important, because it allowed us to specifically change the vision. From beginning to end, he and his amazing team of professionals kept me informed of what was next and what to expect. There were several city permit/approval hurdles that needed to be overcome, and it was painless for me, since Phoenix managed it all. Steve was an invaluable leader, and is one of the most sensitive, thoughtful, resourceful, and cooperative people I have ever met. The entire team of owners and workers were friendly, respectful, and cognizant of the disruption that the project posed in my day-to-day life. At every stage of the project I was asked if I was happy. At first I wasn’t sure if it was just small talk, but my happiness with the project became the overriding goal of all the effort being made by each of the team. The other thing that I think sets Phoenix apart is the respect that each individual has for each other. They all appreciate each other’s expertise and rely on each other’s opinion without hesitation. The space on my property, which was to contain the project, was extremely limited and held several challenges for the team, but they confronted each with a positive, can-do attitude, which I found inspiring. They did their best to save my landscaping, and cleaned up afterwards better than I could ever have expected. I would highly recommend Phoenix for any home improvement project, and I have already scheduled another project for the spring; this, after having added another project that coincided with the completion of the original plan. I have not had a lot of experience with home improvement teams, but I feel fairly certain that I would be hard-pressed to find another group of such fine professionals.

Jason and his team are great. They helped us with some substantial (and unexpected) repairs to our sunroom and patio, including replacing doors, windows, and flooring. Jason is super responsive and easy to communicate with, and we would definitely work with him and his team again.

While I love my kitchen and sunroom, I attribute a great deal of that to the constant presence and follow-up by my spouse - doing a lot of what I would expect a general contractor to do. MW is a lot better than other contractors I have had, but fell below expectations (based on reviews I read at the time of signing my contract). A lot of issues resulted from a lack of communication or miscommunication between MW and their subcontractors. We signed a contract in May 2013, expecting work to begin relatively soon. Work did not begin until after labor day. I have an extra row of lights in the kitchen due to a lack of passing design details onto the electrician, and the electrician did not put the appropriate ampage in the light switch - my spouse found this and it had to be corrected - potential hazard with an overheaded light switch! The join between the house and the addition was not done correctly. We had to have that completely redone by another roofing company. It makes me mad when contractor's work will not hold up for the long term - this had already been addressed once by MW. The AC unit in the addition was not installed correctly, resulting in a leak and subsequent repair in my brand new wall. My husband came up for many of the solutions regarding the tile installation in tricky areas. The kick in the pants was when we got a notice of a mechanics lien on our house due to lack of payment to a subcontractor (apparently the sub did not file some paperwork with the county). I know that is how things work, but I don't expect that from a contractor I selected because of a huge number of positive reviews on a site like Angie's List. I think that all reviewers should wait 6 months or a year to see how things stand the test of time before writing a glowing review.

Total Remodeling Systems

It took much longer than expected, part of this was due to inclement weather & 2 ft of snow. When installer came he noted that porch was not secure enough to place sunroom on. Owner of company came out to inspect while shoring up was being done.TRS shored up porch. Installer knowledgable and helpful. During demoing & building of stairs, they tripped power to house 3 times, finally they took out old outlet from old porch and used other outside outlet. Projected time to start was 11/14/15 & finish 12/14/15, was not started until mid Dec., and finished 2/25/16. County did not issue permit until Dec. TRS might be a little more realistic about construction times. Built sturdy steps & landing and put in all new electric to sunroom. A few knobs for windows missing which they had to reorder and one screen not set in properly and bugs got in, and cover plate to electric box with wiring to porch was not put on. They did fix after a few calls. When dumpster removed from driveway, it knocked my A/C unit off its base, unit needs to be repositioned we are waiting to see what that will cost. TRS did send out a quality review staffer to go over the whole project when finished, which is rare, so it appears that they really want client feedback.

The owner was rude, and unprofessional. And unpleasant to deal with. I do like the room though, and the design was great.

Long Fence

It took weeks to get the drawing. The workers broke my gate and did not report it to me. The sunroom is not sealed well. I have had water come into the room from the rain. I reported the problem and asked to exercise my rights under my warranty, but they have not responded. The nails started popping out of the steps two years after installation. Their work is supposed to be guaranteed for life, but in addition to the nails coming out, when it rains, water comes into my sunroom.

It was a pleasant experience working with Ameritech. The sunroom turned out to be the most attractive room of the house. Everyone loved it. Now I am doing a second project with Ameritech. I will update my review after it is done.

Home Run Remodelers

Sunroom construction preliminary design and estimate was performed quickly, professionally, and resulted in multiple scenarios for our project at a very good price. We enjoyed meeting with the representative and would have hired him if we had chosen to go with that approach. We selected another contractor from Angie's List to do an all-window sunroom construction, but had a great experience with Home Run Remodelers and would recommend them to friends.

Total Remodeling Systems

We were unable to get the variance permission from Fairfax County to allow the construction to proceed (after 2 years of trying). We have tried to cancel the contract with Total Remodeling Systems, and they have been completely unresponsive. We have sent 3 letters, 4 emails, and left half a dozen messages. We cannot get anyone to acknowledge that we want to cancel the contract, and we cannot get anyone to provide us with information about a refund (or partial refund) of our 20% deposit. We have been trying for 6 MONTHS to get a response. NOTHING!!!

John Krause Construction

After doing much research I hired John Krause Construction for a very large project: Sunroom addition, deck, patio, front hardscape and landscape with design of my entire house and yard! John came out personally and was very honest and his pricing was fair. They did an amazing job taking my vision and making it a reality. The crews were efficient and responsive. I will use them in the future.

Lakewood Home Builders Inc
5.0
I am so happy I chose Lakewood Homebuilders. Tim was the project manager and he was awesome. I selected them because of the excellent reviews but also because those who gave negative reviews, the responses from Lakewood back to them were always respectful while others on this site the contractors and customers matched negativity with negativity. From cradle to grave, Tim helped me plan my addition, and he and his crew were always punctual, respectul, and courteous throughout the entire process. The room turned out amazing and I love it! They have earned themselves a repeat customer for life. Job well done and thank you so much Tim! Cecilia

Phoenix Home Services Inc

There’s a reason that so many reviewers consistently praise Phoenix Home Services with words like Professional, Reliable, Trustworthy, Responsive, Quality, Attention to Detail, Creative Designs and Great Communications. It always feels like a leap of faith to sign your name on a contract involving a lot of money. I have friends who have had less than desirable outcomes with other companies, but I can assure you that you will be pleased if you sign on with Phoenix. Phoenix will treat you almost like you are family – from the very start, you can see that they are just as interested in having a positive experience and great project as you are. You will find that Phoenix will stand by their customers from beginning to end. It’s no wonder that they have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureaus (BBB), with no complaints! Clint will help you see your vision in an even better way than you can imagine – his designs are creative, clean-looking and beautiful – your project will come to life exactly as the plan schematics are drawn up. His expertise and ideas will help you come up with the perfect project within your budget (and Phoenix keeps to their budget, which gives great peace of mind). The proposal I received with the scope of work and materials was very detailed and was superior to all the other estimates I received. Because of the specificity and clarity of the proposal, it was easy to make the decision to go with Phoenix. Clint stays in constant communication with you as the plans are put into reality and is very reassuring as you go through the permitting process. He is always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Clint loves his job and exudes enthusiasm for creating a project that you will love, which makes you look forward to the finished product even more than you originally imagined. Once the project is underway, Steve keeps you closely informed of the schedule and all facets of the construction. I can’t say enough about the responsive communication I had throughout all phases of the project. Steve is extremely helpful in helping you make choices for materials and colors/finishes. Having Steve overseeing the project gave me great confidence that the outcome would be exactly what I expected. He is very pleasant to work with and he makes sure that there is great attention to detail and craftmanship in the work that is being done. You can tell that the Phoenix team is just as invested as you are in the quality and end results of their work. Steve was on top of any issues that came up and was quick to respond to any concerns or questions I had while the work was being done. Clean-up was excellent. The end result is that I have a beautiful covered deck and sunroom and it is the envy of all of my friends and neighbors! I would not hesitate to work with Phoenix again and I am happy to recommend their work to anyone who is considering a home improvement project.

We were unable to find pros for your Sunroom Contractors project in Ashburn, VA

However, we may have pros in another category that can help with your project.

How Much Does Adding One Cost?

On average, budget more than $15,000 for a new sunroom. Want a high-end option? It could be $80,000.

As you select between the different types of sunrooms that are available, keep these hiring tips in mind:

1. Have a Clear Plan

A good sunroom brings the outside into your home for everyone to enjoy. You'll be able to get things started on the right foot if you know what you want to do with your space before you start calling contractors. Professionals who build sunrooms will be less likely to add extra fees if you have a clear plan, which means you'll end up paying less to get the exact type of sunny space that you want.

2. Ask About Licensing

In most states, sunroom contractors need to have general contractor licenses. Ask any contractors who you're considering working with to produce copies of their licenses, and also make sure that they have the right insurance to protect you from financial liability if accidents occur on the job. If a contractor isn't properly licensed and insured, work with a competitor.

3. Get a Grasp of Their Reputation

Reputable contractors have built dozens of sunrooms, and they're happy to show off their work at every available opportunity. Check up on the reference contacts, and ask them about details that might not show up in pictures such as timeliness, attitude, and reliability. If you want to get an even better idea of the company's ability to build your sunroom effectively, check out the local customer reviews.

Know Your Terms - Types of Sunrooms:

  • Traditional Solaria or Solariums - multiple walls of glass meant to capture more light for indoor plants
  • Four-Season and Screened Rooms - a room with many screened windows
  • Enclosed Porches - converted or new porches
  • Classic/Traditional Sunrooms - one or more walls of glass - meant for humans to enjoy the sun, not capture it
