"I used Crosstown Engineering to perform a foundation inspection. The engineer arrived on time and was very thorough. Following the inspection, I received the written report promptly. The report relieved my concerns about foundation issues so that I avoided unnecessary foundation work. The report made recommendations for some repairs that would help to stabilize the foundation. I highly recommend Crosstown Engineering. I would use them again."

"Our church decided to hire the Inside & Out...company because they came out with their subcontractor and did a detailed inspect of the metal roof over the sanctuary and over the fellowship hall, took many photos of the problem areas (we had leaks and we had squirrels getting in) and then developed a detailed plan on how they planned to fix the problems. They gave the church officials a presentation with photos and their plan as well as their estimate/quote to complete the work...and based on that their estimate/quote was accepted. The work included repairs to the metal roof to prevent water from leaking into the fellowship hall, the closing up of places on the metal roof over the sanctuary where squirrels were getting in, the painting of a metal cross, the replacement of some gutters and the repair of other gutters as well as using sealant around some other areas. There were surprises but the company and subcontractors did a great job."

"Steven provided a free inspection of the foundation. He measured height differentials around the interior of the house and reviewed the exterior. He was very knowledgeable of the repair required and answered all questions I had for him. he showed different ways to repair the foundation. He stated he loved his job and it showed in the way he performed the inspection."

"Scott Berlin from New View was referred to me 2 years ago by my neighbor after the major hail storm in Wylie. I was very stressed out as it happened 2 months after buying my first house and this was the first major repair I was looking at. Scott came out immediately and walked me through the process, eased my concerns, and handled everything professionally and quickly. I couldn’t ask for a better experience. My roof was repaired and insurance claim taken care of all while staying in constant communication throughout the process. I referred him to my friend in Frisco and he did the same great job for him as well. He also came out recently on less than 24 hour notice to assist in a last minute inspection on a new house when I was in a bind. If are looking for roof repair I would make Scott and New View Roofing your first call for a hassle free, friendly, customer service driven, and quality repair experience."

"I am planning to buy a house which was repaired by 14 piers in 2007 by Brown in Valley Ranch and now having an elevation difference of 4" for 40ft (supposed to be 2"), i wanted to make sure if everything is ok although there are no visible issues. They were on time, professionally checked the house and promised to tighten the piers a bit if i preferred to do so (which wasnt suggested since that would lead to cracks). That gave me the confidence that they are behind their warranty. They promised to send me post-repair results to compare with todays data.

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

A home inspection typically takes between two and three hours, though the total time can range from 30 minutes to half a day. The exact duration depends on several factors, including the home's size, age, condition, and location. Other variables that can affect the timeline are the complexity of the layout, the accessibility of various components, the size of the surrounding grounds, the inspector's experience, and whether it is a full home inspection or a more limited structural inspection. For a more accurate time estimate, you can ask your potential home inspector to review the specifications of the home beforehand. You should receive the completed inspection report within one to four days of the inspection.

Depending on your state, a home inspector may need a license. All states and the District of Columbia require home inspectors to undergo training. However, some states (such as New York, Texas, Washington, and Illinois) require state-issued licenses while others (including California, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Virginia) do not.

Other professional certifications include the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) certification, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI) certification, and the National Home Inspector Examination. Inspectors can also receive certifications in specialized areas. These can include structural specialties, like chimneys, swimming pools, or septic systems, as well as specific issues like mold, pests, or radon gas. Whatever your situation, make sure your home inspector is certified to handle it.

Consider an annual inspection conducted by a local plumber to prevent dangerous and destructive leaks. If you recently moved into an older home or are concerned about the age of your gas lines, call an inspector for a closer look. You may also be required to call an inspector after your contractor installs a new line for an appliance.

Hiring a reliable home builder is an essential task, but there are a few questions you can ask a potential builder to ensure you they are trustworthy and up to the task:

  • How long do you expect the process to take?

  • Are you fully licensed and insured?

  • How much of the work will you subcontract?

  • Will you pull all of the necessary permits for the job?

  • How long is the builder’s warranty you include with your work?

  • How do you handle resolution for issues I might have with the finished product?

  • How much experience do you have?

In many cases, you can sell your house if it has aluminum wiring, but you are likely required to disclose that fact during the sale. In some cases, your city or area may have banned the sale of homes with aluminum wiring, so you’ll need to update the wiring or arrange for its replacement as part of the sale. In some cases, it will benefit your home sale to replace the wiring system before putting it on the market.
