"They did plumbing services. It was basically the toilet tune-up that they were supposed to do. They fixed it on Friday but on Sunday, it did not work again. Took one more week to get out here and they still have to come back to replace the toilet. At the end of it all, that didn't happen."

"While the issue was improved and water flowed more quickly down the tub drain, the problem was not completely solved. I was told the plumber would wear gloves and shoe covers. He did neither. Further, I went to check on him at one point in the house and he had his mask down during the COVID pandemic. It was $349 to snake the drain 25 feet (note it's $49 just to have them come out). Upon inspection of other issues in the house, they suggested I replace a toilet bowl at a parts + labor cost of $750-$950 depending on the bowl I selected. The plumber engaged in a debate about my desire to get a second opinion. In general, I found their pricing to be high and unmatched to the service."

"DMV just completed remodeling my master bathroom which included completely gutting it and redesigning to provide a new large enclosed shower. This included moving plumbing, installing new tile on the floor and throughout the walls of the new glass enclosed shower. Not only was their price fair and competitive, their design was the best of the three quotes I received. Next, they completely gutted my daughter’s bathroom and installed all new fixtures. Javier oversaw the entire month and a half project. He was very accommodating when I decided to make changes in the fixtures I had originally chosen. The job was started on time and completed before the scheduled end date. I would highly recommend DMV Kitchen and Bath to anyone considering a remodel. I couldn’t be more pleased."

"All Aspects Waterproofing installed a French Drain and new sump pump in my basement. The project also required adding a curb to the foundation. From the estimate to project close out, all of the employees were great to deal with - very responsive to emails and calls with questions and pro-actively called me to keep me up to date throughout the process of getting the permits and inspections, coordinating with my plumber who took out and installed new hot water heater, and coordinating with my own schedule. All of the workers who came and did the hard work were great - they worked very clean and went above and beyond helping remove items I needed to have out of the way for their work and left my basement and yard (where they needed to do some of the prep like making concrete) spotless. They were great - responsible, knowledgeable, honest, friendly, reassuring - and I would totally use them again. Also, great value."

"I am very impressed and happy with the customer service style and technical expertise of Umberto and Alex of Platinum Plumbing. From the very first telephone contact, it was obvious these gentlemen respect and value their customers/prospective customers. Umberto's approach was professional yet flexible and thoughtful. He delivered e everything he promised and explained the nature of the work so that I cd understand what was being done and how it was being done. I am pinching myself because prior to Platinum Plumbing -- all other promises from supposedly professional sources were full holes, lack of integrity and extreme disappointment. I can't say enough about how well my Plumbing needs and I were treated today by these gentlemen."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

For plumbing projects in Washington, PEX tubing is ideal for its flexibility and resistance to freeze-thaw cycles, making it suitable for older homes. Copper pipes perform well with local water quality, while CPVC is a reliable option for areas with temperature swings. Use mold-resistant insulation in basements and opt for low-flow fixtures to support water conservation efforts and comply with local plumbing codes.

Helpful?

In Washington, DC, immediate action is needed for multiple backed-up drains, which often signals a main line issue in connected row houses. Sewage odors or water backing up into a basement are also emergencies. A single slow-draining fixture can wait, but you should schedule service soon. Gurgling sounds from several fixtures also point to an urgent main line blockage in DC's older infrastructure.

Helpful?

After a drain cleaning in Washington, DC, you should always keep the detailed invoice and any warranty certificates provided by the contractor. It's also wise to save the before-and-after camera inspection videos, which are standard for thorough work in DC. This documentation, along with any root treatment records, is invaluable for future maintenance, insurance claims, or when selling your home.

Helpful?

When hiring for plumbing in Washington, prioritize contractors with proven experience in local code compliance and historic home plumbing. Verify their insurance coverage and request recent references from Washington-area clients. Ensure they understand the city’s permit process and can handle emergency repairs. Be cautious of unusually low estimates, requests for full upfront payment, or unsolicited offers, as these may indicate unlicensed or unreliable providers.

Helpful?

In Washington, DC, pouring grease down the drain is a primary cause of recurring clogs, especially in older buildings with narrowed pipes. Flushing non-biodegradable items also strains the city's aging sewer system. Neglecting tree root intrusion, common in DC's tree-lined neighborhoods, and using harsh chemical cleaners that corrode old cast iron pipes will quickly undo the benefits of professional drain cleaning work.
