"The owner himself came out on a Saturday to give me a quote and recommend a AC unit that would fit our needs. He was great at giving me advice without sounding like selling me equipment. The install took a day without any issues and everything was nice and clean when they left. I would highly recommend this company to family and friends. The price was great as well!!"

"Took about 2.5 days to remove an antiquated panel, meter and mast and replace with a more modern one. They also cleaned up a bunch of wiring issues in the house and ran conduit and power for an HVAC system. I am still pending power company inspection, but I'm sure the work will pass easily."

"

This firm is terrific !  First, they arrived on time to give us a bid and it was the most thorough evaluation of our heating needs that I have ever seen.  They gave us two choices and complete information for both.  We went with the more expensive unit w/ a better warranty and some additional energy saving features.  Additionally they compute the rebate from our power company and arrive w/ the documents so we did not have to go through the hassle of submitting it ourselves....note to competitors.....keep your bid simple and complete and take care of the rebate "details".  After signing the contract they arrived promptly at the agreed time and did a beautiful job of installation.  They were so careful of everything within the home...wearing shoe covers, vacuuming up after the job was completed and then carefully explaining how to operate the system.  This firm is, by far the most professional HVAC firm we have ever dealt with and I wish we'd used them for previous projects.   Ask for Al....he does an outstanding job and we couldn't be happier !

"Rob came out to review our existing system and helped us figure out what kind and brand of heat pump would work best with our system. He was very patient and informative, and answered all our questions without any pressure or up-sells (we had quotes from five providers). We signed the contract and payed our deposit in June 2021, but unfortunately global supply chain issues delayed the parts being received. Day & Nite were communicative of the issue and offered several alternatives, including a refund of the deposit. We opted to wait for the parts. It took four months, but the techs (lead by Jeff B) were fantastic and very accommodating in how we wanted piping and wiring routed. We are very pleased with how it's turned out and loved working with a local (and family owned!) company! Our gas water heater is due for replacement soon, and we'll be coming back to Day & Nite for that!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The difference between a home surge protector and an HVAC surge protector is that an HVAC surge protector is designed to protect the components inside your HVAC unit while a home surge protector is installed near appliances and meant to protect your entire home. There are three tiers of whole-house surge protectors, and they are more expensive to install than HVAC surge protectors.

At a minimum, an HVAC system should be serviced once per year. However, a twice-a-year service schedule—once in the spring for the cooling system and once in the fall for the heating system—is often recommended, especially for older systems, heat pumps, or in climates with extreme temperatures. Regular service, which includes inspection, cleaning, and maintenance, ensures the system runs efficiently, helps prevent costly breakdowns during peak seasons, and can extend the unit's lifespan. You can also schedule a service if you notice issues like poor performance or strange noises.

Troubleshooting common issues with your AC often sheds light on a problem with the compressor. Signs that you need to replace a bad compressor include your AC blowing warm air, short cycling (turning on and off), making strange noises, and blowing less air overall. Since these problems can stem from several areas of your AC, always call a local AC repair team to confirm it's the compressor.

Replacing an HVAC system does not always include new ductwork. The decision depends on the condition of your existing ducts. If they are in good shape, correctly sized for the new unit, and meet current standards, they can often be reused. However, if the ducts are damaged, poorly designed, or improperly sized, they will likely need to be replaced or upgraded to ensure the new system operates efficiently. An HVAC contractor will assess your ductwork and recommend the best course of action. Typically, ductwork is purchased separately, and a full replacement will add to the overall project cost.

For the most part, you should leave your AC fan in “auto” mode so that it only runs during a heating or cooling cycle. Keeping it in this position uses less energy, which equals lower utility bills. However, there are some situations where it’s better to leave your AC fan on, including if you have allergies or there are lots of people in your home.
