"I reached out to Johnson & Sons and several other contractors to discuss the possibility of opening up and completely remodeling my kitchen and bathrooms, with the addition of a shower to the former half bath off the master suite. After receiving bids and meeting with each contractor, I went with Johnson & Sons due to the transparency and consideration Vic Johnson showed when discussing the project and its challenges, as well as providing a detailed quote. Because this remodel involved the removal of walls, tiling of the kitchen/bathrooms, potential size constraints, and a re-plumbing of the house, It was very important for me that things be done correctly, to code and with permits. Once demo and construction started, things proceeded at a brisk pace with minimal lag between subcontractors, and inspections. Their tile guy, Tony was great to work with and very helpful with making the appropriate detail selections around the showers. We did have a long wait for a cosmetic piece of cabinet siding, which ended up being the final part needed to complete the project. Vic was direct with me about the issue and the delay. Such a minor issue is in my opinion, very small potatoes compared to having quality work done. Ultimately, Johnson & Sons came in slightly under their contract price - a very pleasant and welcome surprise."

"Vic Steiner is honest, experienced, meticulous yet practical. He is a problem solver and his skills are many. He has worked on numerous projects for us, all of which have been done to high standards. He approaches each project as if it were for his own home. Here are some of the projects he has accomplished for us, or for close neighbors: kitchen remodel, bath remodel, flooring (both installation and refinishing) , basement renovation, outdoor work (decking, outdoor lighting, fencing, brickwork, paths). He generally works alone, and if a project is too ambitious for him (it rarely is) he will honestly decline it. He avoids traffic by arriving mid morning and leaving later in the day than most contractors. We give him our very strongest recommendation."

"JJ Construction is professional and knowledgeable. They are on the look out to help guide the home owner to a practical and cost effective solution that looks great. Khoa Ha managed my deck replacement and fence replacement project. He was able to provide great advice that allowed my project cost to remain low and to work quickly through the permitting and inspection process without any problems. He delivered on all of his promises, and was easy to coordinate with before and during our project. His pricing and billing is transparent and fair. Highly recommended!"

"Chris was very professional and polite. He was the only contractor I got a quote from that listened carefully. I am on rented land. I wanted something to last but not cost an arm and leg. His communication was awsome. He never left me hanging for a minute. He was very clean all through the job. He was quiet as possible. So much so my neighbors were impressed. I highly recommend them. Thank you Restoration Solutions."

"This company was excellent to work with and prompt with any concerns we had. The contractor (Mike) did an outstanding job getting the exact window I wanted which was perfect with the raised ceiling and is one of the focal points in the kitchen. Cabinets, countertop and lighting exceeded my expectations. The craftsmanship was excellent and it has been a delight to show off the kitchen to friends and family. A job well done and I plan to use PARS Construction in the future."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

The cost to install a bow window can range from $1,500 to $15,000, with a national average of $3,900. The total price includes materials, which can cost between $1,200 and over $14,000, and labor, which typically adds $300 to $1,900. Several factors influence the final cost, including the window's size and frame material. For example, vinyl frames are the most budget-friendly option, while wood frames are more expensive. Custom features or energy-efficient upgrades will also increase the price. For comparison, a bay window installation typically costs between $1,000 and $7,000.

Accurate measurements, sturdy materials, and seamless integration with other structures.

Installing a tongue-and-groove wall requires similar techniques to those associated with installing shiplap. However, because of the precision necessary to make each board fit perfectly and the increased material prices, the cost is higher than that of shiplap installations. Expect to spend between $2 and $6 more per square foot for tongue-and-groove walls versus shiplap ones.

Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.
