"Mark and his guys helped us install a new AC last summer. They arrived on time and did a great job! So when I was looking for someone to do the maintenance of our furnace, I called them. Todd went above and beyond my expectations. He finished the job and even helped fix my hinge. Both Mark and Todd strike me as very genuine people. And I would definitely hire them again!"

"Didn't realize that Smart Electric did HVAC as well, until I got a recommendation. Their quote was the best I'd received, they performed the install within a week of giving us the quote, the Installer/Estimator was knowledgable and helpful, and the installation was performed by an excellent group. I can't imagine we could be happier about our Heat Pump installation!"

"Our hydronic heating stopped working after a power outage, so I paid extra for their emergency service to have a technician visit and diagnose the problem during the weekend (just before Christmas, no less!). The person on the phone was very friendly, and a technician named Todd arrived within the hour. Unfortunately, the issue required a part that had to be ordered and with the holiday we had to wait a few days. Once the part arrived, Day & Nite called right away and I was able to schedule Todd to come out the next morning. Todd was no-nonsense in the good way -- you can tell he's a skilled professional and cares deeply about his work. It took him about a little over an hour to replace our valve, and when I was paying he answered a number of questions I had about the heating system's overall setup and general maintenance that should be performed. We inherited this system from the previous home owners -- and I have zero previous experience with a hydronic system -- so I really appreciated the extra time Todd gave to explain more about it."

"I don't think we could have asked for a better experience with replacing our furnace and adding an air conditioner. They gave us a line item estimate and discussed the pros and cons of various options, including rebates to apply for. From first visit to completion, everything was done in a timely manner with true professionalism and courtesy."

"Northwest Thermal was wonderful to work with! It can be quite difficult when you?re having HVAC issues through the winter months and you don?t know which way to turn. We reached out to several companies but Northwest Thermal was quick to respond and got us scheduled right away. We worked with Vlad and Mark throughout the process, they were both very knowledgeable in explaining how the system works, and what was causing the problems previously. They kept our home clean with minimal disturbance and got it done quickly! I am now at ease knowing our HVAC has been installed with quality and care, and operating flawlessly. If you need any HVAC service done, don?t hesitate to reach out! But only if you want it done right, by a great team."

"Wow, these people were great! After seeing another company struggle to get two very old fas fireplaces to work, our property manager was directed by another fireplace repair place (who no longer services gas fireplaces) to call Lifetime. They sent Travis McKibben to our home, and he was fast, efficient, and most of all, he got the job done and done well. He really knows what he's doing, and is a really nice guy too. If you have to get service on a gas fireplace (especially an older model), or need HVAC work, I highly recommend this company and this technician."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Both evaporator coils and condenser coils are recyclable and contain valuable, sellable metals such as copper and aluminum. Not only is it more earth-friendly to take them to a local metal recycling facility, but you can also trade them in for cash. Also, once the coils are removed from the system, they won’t have any traces of refrigerant, so you won’t have to arrange for recycling Freon or R-410A unless you’re disposing of the entire AC system.

It’s normal to hear a low humming sound as air moves through your vents. Most of the time, you probably won’t even notice it. However, if that sound becomes disruptive or if you hear more concerning noises (such as rattling, clicking, banging, hissing, or grinding), there might be a problem with your HVAC system.

The DOE is phasing out AC units with SEER ratings that fall below 14 or 15. The exact minimum rating depends on your region. In the northern United States, new ACs must have a minimum SEER rating of 14, though you can still buy and install older systems as long as they were compliant when they were manufactured. In the southern and southwestern United States, you cannot buy or install older air conditioners with lower SEER ratings. The minimum rating is between 14.5 and 15, depending on the power of the unit.

The standard rule for return duct sizing is that the return vent should be the same size or larger than the supply vent. This will ensure balanced airflow in your home and reduce strain on your HVAC system.

Turn your system off when you're toasty or when you're out to prevent unnecessary wear. Using the timer on your thermostat so that it switches off when it reaches a certain temperature or turns on just before you get back from work is best. An annual maintenance contract can be helpful to ensure your system receives these important services at regular intervals.
