"I would highly recommended WCV windows. The 2 man crew that installed 9 new vinyl windows including a sliding door did an excellent job in just a day! We were amazed by how their attention to detail gave us beautiful looking looking windows inside and out. Allso, we're staying much warmer and have much less outside noise coming in. A job well done in very friendly professional manner."

"Brandon R and Ryan P did a fantastic job of installing my new windows. The instillation was changeling due to the age of the cabin and the custom window shapes to deal with. They were professional, efficient, courteous and were able to answer all the questions I had about the new windows. Feeling very happy and very well served."

"It was an excellent decision to have 10 windows replaced by Harley Exteriors. Our old drafty windows were replaced by beautiful new insulated windows. The crew was excellent and done within a few hours. Great communication throughout the experience and I would highly recommend Harley Exteriors if you are looking for new windows."

"Kohl I and Colton G did a great job installing our new dining room window and closet window. Install was done quickly, area cleaned and a demo of window operation. This was our third project by Renewal. We've now replaced all the windows in our 82 year old home."

"We replaced all the windows in our house (darn near 60!) along with 4 doors because it was time. We shopped the job around and Lake Washington came out on top not just with a fair price, but they had me convinced that they had the know how and logistics capability to pull the job off smoothly. Boy did they ever! Over the course of two weeks we got the pleasure of working with excellent crews (Denzel, Jordan, Ricky, Justin, Christiano, Andy, and a bunch more whose names I've forgotten) who made construction in my house as pleasant as possible. The install crews were extremely efficient, clean, and thorough - we were always able to live in the place at the end of the day, and every bit of install looks immaculate. These folks are truly some of the best that I've ever worked with to get something done in my place, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again if the need arose."

"Tim Thompson is one of the best and most thorough people I’ve ever worked with. Not only did he get the project done to his high standards, but he didn’t leave until he checked everything out and made sure it was perfect. We have a 3 story house with a solarium and every window sparkled. Thank you, Tim."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Consider adding sash locks to your windows to fix drafty windows if you don't currently have any. Sash locks in double-hung and single-hung windows help to create a tight seal when windows are shut.

It’s easy to tell if you have low-E windows. Light a match or grab a pen light and hold it up to your windows. You should see multiple reflections in the window—four for double-pane windows. If one of the reflections is a slightly different color than the other three, you have low-E windows. If you don’t have low-E windows, all the reflections will be the same color.

Window capping costs between $1 and $2 per linear foot. Since your average window size is 24 by 36 inches, you’re looking at 10 linear feet in total, or $10 to $20 per window. Labor adds another $30 to $100 per hour to the project. If you have custom windows, you’ll spend more to have your windows capped. Fiberglass tends to cost more than vinyl and aluminum, while vinyl costs the least but has the shortest lifespan and may have a higher long term cost.

Whether or not new windows increase property taxes depends on where you live and by how much your upgrade increases your home’s value. Smaller projects likely won’t result in increased property taxes, but it’s always a good idea to err on the side of caution and check. Contact your local county appraisal department for the most accurate information about property taxes in your area.

Most manufacturers have their name imprinted somewhere on the window, such as the spacer bar, hardware, or frame. Other manufacturers will include an identification number printed on the glass itself. If you’re unable to find either of these, then your window was manufactured locally (oftentimes called a “shop window”).

With a manufacturer name (or even better, the identification number) you can attempt to research the information to find out when the product was made. Keep in mind this won’t tell you when the window was installed on your home, but can get you close.
