"Moe very responsive and arranged to start quickly on my projects. I had multiple projects like resetting a post in concrete, reattaching stone to the facing of my front porch and replacing damaged floor baseboard. He was affordable, very skilled and honest. I enjoyed working with Moe and would hire him again!"

"I hired Mr GC to install plywood flooring and a small two step staircase in my attic for extra storage. These guys did an awesome job and the price was reasonable for the work required. Would definitely hire again. Daniel came out to my house and gave me an accurate quote from the get go. Overall A+ work."

"John Sullivan has completed several projects for me. He patched some tile in my bathtub/shower. His work was beautifully done. Painted a bedroom-looks very clean and well done. Replaced the cabinet bottom under my kitchen sink. Looked very nice. He has done many emergency calls as well, like unclogging drains. He shows up, and finishes the work. Also communicates with us through the entire process. Fair prices, too."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

The average cost to build a pergola ranges from $2,200 to $6,400, whereas the average cost of an awning ranges from $1,400 to $4,400, meaning that an awning tends to be less expensive to build or install than a pergola. Ultimately, the less expensive option depends on a few factors, including size, quality of materials used, and location.

Yes, you can replace just the fabric on an awning without having to replace the entire awning frame and hardware. This process will take a professional about one to two hours. If you want to DIY, it could take longer, especially for large or retractable awnings. Replacing the fabric on an awning can improve the look of your home and help naturally cool your interior and exterior spaces.

Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:

  • Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire

  • Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning

  • Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings

  • Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust

  • Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option

  • Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage

Stainless steel and copper are the most durable and will probably last the longest, especially when you compare them to fabric awnings. Steel is the most popular if your budget isn’t a top priority, but some people prefer copper awnings over steel because they are lighter, which makes them easier to install. Aluminum offers a more budget-friendly metal awning option that is still attractive and offers some durability, especially compared to fabric.

Yes, you can install an awning yourself, and it can be an excellent DIY project with immediate benefits. This is most feasible for smaller, pre-assembled units. However, awnings are often heavy and awkward for one person to handle, so you should always have at least one helper. If you have difficulty lifting heavy objects, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper mounting and durability.
