"John called as soon as I started my project in Home Advisor. His estimate over the phone was the lowest of four by close to $100. He seemed to know the exact problem I explained. We scheduled an appointment for the next day. Michael called to let me know he will be on time if not early. He was 25 minutes early and got right to work. Within the hour he was done, as anticipated. The cost was toward the lower end of the estimate John gave. And the work was done and once again my tub drained! I know who I am calling for all my plumbing stuff now."

"I called First American Drain this morning at 9 am as a recommendation from our usual plumber(due to the current circumstances), and Garrett showed up within an hour. He wore a mask and gloves and used booties to walk inside the house (as it was raining outside). He was very professional and explained what he was planning to do after he checked out the drain. He got his supplies and was able to fix the drainage issue. He explained everything very clearly and what can be done to avoid further problems."

"Budget Dry installed a sump pump about 6 hears ago. They have serviced the pump and batteries once a year. We already had drainage pipes in our basement and an inexpensive sump pump. After one of the hurricanes, they extended the drainage to other parts of the basement including near the furnace. They also installed a commercial sump pump with a battery back up. Since then we have had no problems with water in the basement. They only expanded our existing pipes. Other companies gave us estimates to redo everything at a much higher cost. Other companies also included estimates to redo the entire basement. They are efficient."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

For drain cleaning in Springfield, knowing the age of your home is critical, as many properties have older cast iron or clay pipes. The amount of tree coverage is also important because Springfield's mature trees often cause root intrusion. Additionally, a professional will need to know about basement accessibility, whether you have a septic system, and if the property is in a historic district.

Helpful?

Safety is a top priority for plumbing work in Springfield, especially in historic homes. Be alert for potential hazards like lead pipes, asbestos, and carbon monoxide from gas appliances. The Springfield Health Department advises using GFCI outlets in wet areas and ensuring proper ventilation for gas water heaters. For complex or hazardous tasks, consult a licensed Springfield plumber to ensure compliance with local safety standards and building codes.

Helpful?

For plumbing projects in Springfield, using PEX piping is highly recommended due to its flexibility and resistance to freezing, which is crucial in the local climate. Copper pipes are also valued for their longevity in Springfield's older homes. Insulating all exposed pipes, especially in unheated basements, is essential. Local plumbing supply stores can provide materials that meet Springfield's plumbing code and withstand the region's temperature swings.

Helpful?

In Springfield, hidden challenges during plumbing work often include discovering outdated lead or galvanized pipes, which must be replaced to meet local plumbing regulations. Older homes may also have asbestos insulation or require foundation repairs uncovered during plumbing updates. Permit requirements from the Springfield Building Department can introduce additional steps, so always plan for potential code upgrades and unforeseen repairs when starting a plumbing project.

Helpful?

A simple drain cleaning for a sink in Springfield typically takes one to two hours, while a main sewer line cleaning can last two to four hours. Projects may take longer due to local factors like Springfield's older housing stock or winter weather, which can extend the job. Properties in historic districts may also require special care, adding an hour or two to the total time.
