"I can't say enough good things about Brian, who took care of this work for me. He returned my call promptly, listened carefully to what I needed, and was able to go out to my house within a few days to look at the space available for the two needed light fixtures. He then gave me excellent advice on the type of fixtures that would fit, and the exact sizees I needed to order, as well as what locations would work best for connecting them to the existing wiring. Using his advice, I was able to order the fixtures, which he then came out again to install. He obviously has good skills, but he was also prompt, efficient, honest, and very professional. I will not hesitate to contact him again when I need any further work done -- thanks Brian!"

"They wanted cash only for their work and were very demanding. I told them I work every morning and they knocked on my door and asked for money from my son who knew nothing about the work I was doing. They would not even accept a check. It is like they did not trust me. Makes me wonder if they are working under the table."

"I think they treated the wrong lawn. The note they sent me via text message referenced trees and shrubs in my yard, I have none. They also did not leave a yard marker showing they had been there. Otherwise, this would have been a 5 star review."

Lawns questions, answered by experts

After finishing leaf removal, inspect and clean your gutters before the first hard freeze hits Springfield. You must also sweep your adjacent sidewalks and nearby street storm drains to prevent slip hazards and localized flooding. Because local oak trees hold their foliage late into the season, plan a final sweep in late November. Finally, aerate and overseed your lawn to take advantage of the bare soil and cool autumn moisture.

Helpful?

You must tackle leaf removal during the fall, specifically between October and late November. MA weather brings early winter freezes, and wet foliage left on the ground will mat down under snow, damaging your turf and inviting pests. The city also restricts curbside yard waste collection to this autumn window. Clear the debris before December to prevent frozen leaves from creating dangerous slip hazards on your sidewalks.

Helpful?

Watch out for contractors who issue flat-rate quotes without visiting your Springfield property to assess the tree density. A reliable professional will always include multiple visits to handle staggered drops from oak trees. Avoid quotes lacking clear details about proper debris disposal or sidewalk clearing, as improper dumping violates municipal rules. Furthermore, any hired professional performing leaf removal must provide an active state contractor registration number.

Helpful?

Completing leaf removal on a small or mid-sized MA property takes two to five hours per session. Larger wooded lots require a full day or multiple days across the season. Local oak trees drop foliage late into November, requiring several passes rather than a single cleanup. Frequent autumn rain makes debris heavy, significantly slowing down the work. Schedule two to three sessions to meet the municipal curbside collection deadlines.

Helpful?

For leaf removal in Springfield, keep plenty of biodegradable paper bags or rigid containers on hand, as the city prohibits plastic bags for curbside collection. You should also have a heavy-duty tarp to move debris easily. Because local ordinances hold homeowners responsible for adjacent sidewalks, keep a sturdy push broom ready. For larger, tree-heavy lots, invest in high-capacity rakes or blowers to handle thick mats of wet oak and elm leaves.
