Small jobs welcome

"These are excellent plumbers who have helped us with multiple projects in our old historic home, from fixing and capping gas pipes to repairing a dishwasher connection, navigating jackhammering water pipe pressure and installing a new bathroom toilet! We really enjoy partnering with them on our home projects because they know their stuff, they?re super fast and most of all, just really nice professionals who take the time to do it right."

"John called as soon as I started my project in Home Advisor. His estimate over the phone was the lowest of four by close to $100. He seemed to know the exact problem I explained. We scheduled an appointment for the next day. Michael called to let me know he will be on time if not early. He was 25 minutes early and got right to work. Within the hour he was done, as anticipated. The cost was toward the lower end of the estimate John gave. And the work was done and once again my tub drained! I know who I am calling for all my plumbing stuff now."

"Derek contacted me almost immediately, quickly worked out with my tenants (it was their bathroom sink drain) when he could come and do the work, and was finished in short order My tenants (four young women) raved about him and his work afterward. "I have no issue with the quality of the work performed or the customer service given. They contacted me quickly, were able to come out quickly, and repaired the toilet in short order. My issue is the price. The plumber who did the work quoted me $375 for what was really only a < 1 hour job (a minor toilet repair). That is outrageous, in my opinion, even given that it was a same-day, short notice visit. Other plumbers I have used would have done the same job for less than half the money. These are licensed, insured pros. Other than the extremely high cost, I have no issue with the work. It was quality work, but was done at a very, very high price. I won't be using Rooter again."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Start by gutting the old fixtures and features that need to be removed, such as the tile, vanity, and flooring. You may benefit by removing the toilet, even if you intend to use the same one. Next, install the new shower or tub, followed by the flooring, and then the drywall, which you should then paint. After that, install your new cabinets, vanity, countertop, sink, and faucet, in that order. Replace your light fixture next. Lastly, reconnect the toilet.

The normal water level in a toilet bowl is about halfway full. The water should sit above the P trap drain because this creates a seal and suction. When you flush the toilet, the suction keeps sewer gases from entering your house through your toilet. Anytime the water level is higher or lower than half full, you need to make adjustments or replace broken parts.

The amount of water wasted when a toilet ghost flushes depends on the cause of the ghost flushing. Leaky flapper valves tend to waste less water than a larger problem like a damaged flush valve that makes the toilet run constantly. Even if you don’t think you’re wasting a lot of water, it’s still a problem that should be fixed quickly.

Some of the problems with in-wall toilets include the complex installation, which might need extra framing. It is also more difficult to access the toilet tank for maintenance or troubleshooting because it’s behind the flush button panel and in the wall. Over time, you’ll spend more on maintenance because you’ll need a plumber to work on hidden plumbing.

Yes, and no. Your shower, toilet, and sink all connect to the same main drain, but the secondary drains going from each fixture to the main drain are usually separate. This isn’t always the case—especially in older homes—but since toilets contain black water and showers, tubs, and sinks have grey water, toilets are more regulated and come at a greater risk of contamination. It’s best to keep these drains separate using individual waste collection for this reason.
