"Vinny came over to my home the same day to give an estimate as I needed to replace my exisiting humidifier. I already knew it wasn’t working and super old so best to replace it. He explained everything to me when looking at my furnace room. Explained the different size and efficiency of the various models I could use with the size of my home. Quick to schedule installation as well :) I will definitely use this company for future HVAC needs!"

"My old central air unit went out on a Sunday. I sent an email to Home Comfort Systems, who we have been using for heating and cooling service, because it was a Sunday not expecting to hear back until Monday. Within a half hour I received a call from Steve the owner. I told him what was going on. He gave me an estimate over the phone. About an hour later he called back and asked to come over and look at my current system. I said that was fine. He came by looked things over and confirmed his estimate. He gave me information on the unit that he would install and said that it could be done on Tues. morning. Tuesday morning the crew showed up (Rich and Mike). They were courteous and efficient. They removed the old equipment and installed the new and had everything cleaned up and the new system running within 3 hours. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing heating and cooling work."

"All I can say is there is no need to go to any other HVAC company! My wife and I have hired almost every company on the North Shore, and I can tell NOBODY delivers better on price, maintenance, and the quality of the install than All-Temp Heating & Air!"

"It went very well. Joe did such an excellent job in his initial meeting that we decided to go forward with him and his crew to install HVAC system for our 3 flat. He showed up on time every day and finished the project ahead of schedule. He was very professional, experienced and patient. I highly recommend him and his team for all your HVAC installation/upgrades. Thanks Joe!"

"JML did a great job replacing a cracked portion of a condensate line in my attic. The cracked PVC was up in the attic which is in a tight spot. Derek showed up the next day after I called and went up into the attic found the crack and replaced the pipe in a hour. There was only professionalism from him despite having to be in a hot tight attic digging through insulation for a hour replacing this condensate line. I would definitely hire this company again for any HVAC / Water Heater needs."

"I had a great experience with their HVAC services. They repaired my electrical baseboard heater quickly and made sure everything was working perfectly before leaving. The team was professional, punctual, and very knowledgeable. They also installed our new central A/C system smoothly with no issues at all. Communication was clear throughout the process, and the pricing was fair. Highly satisfied with the quality of work and customer service. I would definitely recommend them for any heating or cooling needs."

"Fantastic. From start to finish, Lifeline was amazing. Their office was super friendly and easy to deal with. Scott helped us personally as well, as we had so many issues. Who knew owning a house would cost so much??? We were lucky to have the honesty of Lifeline. Compared to others, they addressed the issues alone and did not try to over-sell us on anything. We were comfortable with Scott and the technician they sent out. Bottom line, we now have the plumbers we can rely on! I hope I don't need them, but if I do for any of my HVAC, they will be the first call."

"I have lived in my home for over 23 years and have used several different Heating and Air companies thru the years... I needed service in Sept 2018 and had various coupon prices of $39 and $49 for an A/C tune up and was about to chose on of them but decided to check Angie's list for a review or google for the coupon companies. That is when I found American Family HVAC and started to read their reviews.. For some reason, I decided to use this company even tho the cost was a bit more money and boy am I ever happy that I went with my hunch. Sometimes it is NOT always about the money. I was really looking for an A/C furnace company that I could count on and use regularly. Not only was the repair gentleman that came out, on time and very thorough and professional but he spent a long time and I feel that I received the most thorough tune up that I have ever had. Josh, the service tech was just a delight and the best part was that this company has a membership contract that I was able to purchase. It is a small monthly charge monthly and . I get 2 free tune-ups a year included in the monthly fee for NO charge and if I need any service work I get 20% off of the charge and same day service...all for only $12.95 a month. What a wonderful idea and I cannot express how happy I am with this choice. It is a win-win deal for me and the company. I am a very happy camper with my choice of this company."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Replacing both an AC and a furnace takes a full day on average, ranging from eight to 12 hours. The process involves removing the old units, installing the new ones, and ensuring all connections are properly made. If both systems are being replaced simultaneously, it can take longer than installing a furnace alone, so plan accordingly.

The higher the BTU rating an air conditioner has, the more effective it can be at cooling your space. It will cool off your room faster in the short term. However, over the long term, if the unit has too many BTUs for the space, it can wear down the unit faster and shorten its life span.

No, for two very important reasons. First, it’s illegal to release refrigerant into the air or ground since it can be toxic and cause environmental damage. Technicians typically pump old or extra refrigerant into separate tanks for special disposal. Second, without professional equipment to read refrigerant pressure and levels, plus the AC’s suggested requirements, it’s impossible to know if you’ve removed the right amount of refrigerant. Stay away from a DIY solution here and seek an expert with the right tools.

If possible, avoid placing furniture in front of a return air vent. A blocked air vent can cause your HVAC system to use more energy, which in turn can lower the life span of your unit and raise your energy bill. Furniture can also trap hot or cold air, damaging your furniture or appliances.

Professional duct installers suggest leaving between six and 12 inches of space in front of an air return vent. If you must place furniture in front of a return air vent, try to aim for putting furniture over a floor vent instead of in front of a wall vent, and avoid draping curtains over any vent system.

You will only need to refill your AC with refrigerant if it has a leak. Otherwise, a modern, well-maintained AC will most likely never need a recharge. You may notice a leak in an older system if your bills are higher, you hear a hissing sound, or if the air is blowing out hot.
