"They did a great job! They even found other issues from the shawdy installment of the electrical work and not only fixed it but cleaned up the other company's mess! They followed city code and did it all very quickly. Their pricing is very reasonable, they're professional and courteous. We'll be in touch again for future electrical work!"

"EddieWas through and easy to work with. The work was excellent and Eddie of Ferrer Electric consulted with the company who was installing industrial fans to be sure that all of their requirements for the electrical outlets were met This was a complicated install as it was on the ceiling of a barn which required a lift Eddie also followed up on his work to be sure all was done correctly I would hire him again and will recommend Ferrer Electric to my friends Sue Lutz"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Evanston, persistent flickering lights, frequent breaker trips, or warm outlets are early signs of underlying electrical issues. If your home features knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, these symptoms can quickly escalate. Moisture near Lake Michigan increases the risk of GFCI failures, especially in basements and kitchens. Addressing these problems early helps prevent major repairs and ensures your home remains safe and up to code.

Helpful?

In Evanston, the longevity of electrical work depends on strict adherence to local electrical codes, selecting corrosion-resistant materials for lake-effect moisture, and updating old wiring in historic homes. Always confirm your electrician follows Evanston’s permit and inspection process. For lasting results, request tamper-resistant outlets and surge protection, and ensure all outdoor components are weather-sealed to withstand harsh winters and fluctuating temperatures.

Helpful?

Electrical project timelines in Evanston vary by project type and home age. Simple jobs like outlet or light fixture installation typically take a few hours, while panel upgrades require 1–2 days. Whole-house rewiring in older homes may take 3–7 days. Factor in an additional 3–5 business days for permit approval and 1–2 days for inspections, which are required before finalizing most electrical work.

Helpful?

When reviewing quotes in Evanston, be wary if a contractor avoids discussing permits, lacks proof of insurance, or pressures you to make quick decisions. Quotes that are significantly lower than others may indicate shortcuts or subpar materials. Reliable electricians will provide written estimates, local references, and demonstrate experience with Evanston’s historic homes and moisture challenges. Always confirm they understand the city’s inspection and permit requirements.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Evanston, use copper wiring in 12 or 14 AWG for reliability and code compliance. Install weather-resistant outlets and GFCI/AFCI protection, especially in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces. For exterior or underground work, choose PVC or metal conduit and weatherproof covers to handle lake-effect moisture and winter storms. Always select components rated for the Chicago area’s temperature and humidity swings.
