"We met with about 10 contractors before choosing Mike for the job. Mike was vary professional, knowledgeable and listen closely to our needs. Mike explained clearly how the work would play out and job went well from start to finish. His team were prompt and hard working. Mike was accommodating when we wanted to add other masonry items after the work began. All the work finished on time even with the few added items. His price was vary competitive and we would recommend him highly."

"About a year ago we had our frame braced and bolted to the foundation (seismic retrofit) . The Foundation Works did a top notch job with a professional crew at every step. Their price was similar to other bids and they worked with us through the Earthquake Brace and Bolt program. They also stuck to their time lines. We were very happy with them, but here's the cherry on top. We had copper pipes installed recently. When the county inspector was out to inspect that job, he looked at the work under the house. He asked us who did our brace and bolt job. We told him and asked why. He said he could see that they did a really great job."

"My project was a 100' long, 7' tall concrete block wall. I met with both owners, not sumultaneously, but separately. Their communication was spot on, they were very friendly and knowledgeable. The work was completed in a very short period of time, the workers were extrememly capable and worked very hard to complete the project. I highly recommend them!"

"Our front yard needed some structure. Gadi helped design and build two entry pillars in stone masonry, plus a new walkway to the door. The old path was narrow and cracked, and the new one is wide and fits the property better. The pillars gave us a real entrance feel. They also ran low-voltage lights inside the pillars so they light-up at night. It's not flashy, just clean and sharp. The stone matches the front steps, and everything feels like it belongs now. Gadi and his crew kept things simple and stuck to our request. Would work with them again."

"What a great service! Conrad's professional expertise gave us a new sprinkler system with very dramatic lighting for accent. And the masonry work was added seamlessly. The men arrived promptly every morning and worked diligently to complete the project in a very timely manner. They even assisted in planting additional plants around the perimeter of the house! We were on a very tight schedule to accommodate a professional commitment and Del Mar rescheduled themselves to fit us in and completed the entire project as promised. And the added bonus - our neighbors commenting on the quick service and dramatic lighting. I can not say enough good things about this service. I would not hesitate to call on Del Mar Landscaping again.... and I will!"

"My house does not sit on level lot. Westside of house had the foundation raised, leveled and rest of foundation repaired. House was built over 45 years ago. Mr. Aboav explained in detail what had to be done. I actually accompanied him under my house to see the before and after results. All interior cracks caused by the leveling were patched and are ready for painting. None of the other estimates I received included as much detail and pictures to show me what to expect after the work would be completed. I don't know how else to explain it, but before Mr. Aboav started the repairs, he drew me a detailed map with pictures."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Most of the time, you don’t need to seal brickwork and can save that money for another area of home improvement. But if your brick is cracking or you live in an area with a lot of excess moisture (either in terms of rain or freezes), sealing can extend the lifetime of your home. But, make sure you use a breathable sealant, like siloxane, to allow the moisture to evaporate on its own.

Clean regularly, check for cracks, and inspect the chimney annually for safety.

Painted exterior brick does not usually need sealing. Brick is a porous material, so you don’t want to apply a sealant that could trap moisture inside the bricks and cause erosion and structural damage. The risk of moisture-induced damage after sealing is higher in colder climates where trapped moisture can expand if it freezes. On the other hand, it makes sense to seal really old brick or kitchen backsplashes, where moisture from cooking can weaken the brick.

A traditional German schmear uses mortar, making it unsuitable for adherence to painted surfaces. Professionals recommend removing any existing paint before applying mortar. However, you can rough up the painted surface and clean it to test if the mortar will stick. Remember that the underlying paint's texture and color may affect the schmear's final appearance—so starting with a bare brick wall will ensure the ideal finish.

Two types of masonry are veneer masonry and solid masonry. Veneer masonry is thin brick or stone material attached to the face of a building. With veneer masonry, the walls support the weight of the masonry products rather than the masonry being built on a concrete footing. Solid masonry is a wall or other brick or stone structure built on a concrete footing, and the masonry supports itself.
