"Fabulous. George and his crew were professional, knowledgeable, conscientious, accessible and attentive to my questions and concerns. The crew showed up on time every day throughout the course of the work. They kept me informed when they bumped into something unusual - like the discovery that parts of my house had five roofs! This was much too much weight for my house to carry. Obviously no other roofer told me that and they just kept adding layers on top of existing roofs. Good grief. George corrected all that by clearing out the old roofs and giving me one good one. It's been a few years now. We've been through some serious rain storms and wind storms. My house is snug and dry."

"We have a historic home and there was additional care required to replace siding beneath the roofing material at the eaves. The team at Jordan roof completed the entire job in only 4 days, they fixed up our dormer which had shingles that had deteriorated, and repainted some of the shingles. Our home looks better than ever! Great responsiveness, fair pricing, and high quality work."

"I discovered a small leak in our garage roof. Lifetime Roofing was quick to send a tech to look at the problem. They discovered that the problem was with one of the vents in the roof and not the roof and apply a fix. Hope it works, but the service was quick, honest and communication was great. Thank you Tony!"

"We had a leaking roof in San Bernardino and called Avi for help. He came out right away, gave us an honest assessment, and suggested a roof replacement. The job was done quickly and with great attention to detail. The new roof is solid and looks fantastic. Avi is by far the most professional roofing contractor in San Bernardino. I recommend him to everyone in the area."

"We're thrilled with the work done by Platinum! They replaced our entire roof, and we couldn't be happier. The price was fair, and the quality of their work was an exactly what they mentioned to us when they first gave the estimate. We were so impressed that we've already decided to hire them for our family business's body shop roof. If you need roofing work done, these guys are the ones to call!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The most obvious and severe sign of a roof leak is the presence of wet spots on your ceilings, specifically on the top floor of your home. You can also identify a roof leak from your attic if you see sagging insulation or if you notice mold growth or water stains on the rafters or the underside of the roof deck. From the street, look for cracked or missing shingles, moss growth, and shingles that are curling upward, all of which can suggest a leak.

During the framing process, builders connect the roof to the walls with materials, including metal connectors, plywood panels, and wood blocks. These roof-to-wall connections are important and provide weatherproofing, noise and temperature insulation, protection against pests, and home integrity. The type of connector and method used will vary, depending on your home’s construction and needs, and each has pros and cons in terms of cost, noise insulation, longevity, and reliability. Talk with your home or roofing contractor about the best connectors for your roof and walls, and what they recommend for your home.

Though cedar shakes often get confused with shingles, there are a few key differences between wood shakes and wood shingles. For one, cedar shingle prices are lower, although shingles are less durable than wood shakes. Cedar shakes are thicker than shingles (shingles range from about 3/8 to 1/2 inches thick, compared to 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick for shakes). Wood shakes are handmade, while shingles are usually machine-made. Also, wood shakes work better on steeper roofs than shingles do. While the cost of cedar shingles is more budget-friendly, there are many great reasons to choose shakes.

White is the most energy-efficient color for roofs because solar energy reflects off white surfaces the best. Silver is also a good choice.

To cap off a chimney flue, start by measuring its width, length, and diameter, if it’s circular. Purchase a cap that fits the flue, and decide whether you want a temporary or permanent model. Then, slide or insert the cap onto the flue and secure it with a screwdriver. Be sure to avoid over-tightening the screws to prevent chimney damage.
