Nate allowed me to order my bathtub myself, which was nice. Lowe's failing to deliver when promised, was not. This delayed the start, and although it did take longer than I expected, everything came out great. They did not charge me extra after the water damage was exposed, which was a relief. One of the other estimates I got from a general contractor was for 3x as much, AND they planned to add on after the wall was opened. The bathroom specialists wanted 150% of what we paid, and I think we ended up with better results.

We hired Pete initially to help with a couple of re-modeling projects at home, including (but not limited to) adding an extra room upstairs. However, we discovered water damage few months prior to the project's planned start date. Pete helped us gain clarity on the rebuild efforts that would follow soon after the water mitigation would complete, worked closely with the insurance adjusters and was always responsive during the planning phases of the process. His crew members were very professional, friendly and always worked with us closely to meet our design needs. For the complexity of the project, Pete and his team did a great job in projecting reasonable timelines and setting expectations. I have only great things to say about the quality of the workmanship of his team. Overall, we would recommend Pete for home renovation/repair efforts.

Pete and his team are top-notch from the quality to the consistency to the attention to detail. In a world filled with contractors, we feel so lucky to have Pete and his team on our side. They take the pressure and worry out of a project, unlike many other contractor stories I’ve heard.

We are pleased with the quality of work provided by Excel GC. In our second story remodel, we really appreciated the experience and dedication from the foreman, Oscar, and his team. He is very skilled at his trade and runs a professional team. Excel GC has reliable connections to the best subcontractors we have ever worked with. They are friendly, professional and experienced in their trade to handle complex remodels. From building a shed to a major home remodel Excel GC is more than capable of any project and will deliver high-quality work. Additionally, their experience in the industry helped provide direction and guidance when tough decisions had to be made. Communication is clear and upfront with an effort to communicate any future considerations during the project.

It was a big project (really 3 projects in one) and the end result is great. Their teams of workers are the best. Very skilled and customer focused. They use high quality products. The exterior of our home feels completely remodeled. It took longer than estimated to do the work, due to difficulty getting some supplies during this time and extreme weather (rain then heat). However, it was worth the wait as everything turned out beautifully.

We had a water damage from an overflow toilet, after plumbing repair and moisture treatment, Peter’s company was hired to restore the home original status, they have successfully repaired the dry wall and put light fixture in place, they replaced bath floor and countertop with much better material within our budget limit, now the bathroom looks completely new. They are very professional, friendly, and they show strong craftsmanship through their work.

Pete and his crew were fantastic! Since insurance was involved post-fire, there was an additional layer of complexity throughout the project. We needed the house restored, but we also wanted to take the opportunity to do some upgrades at the same time. Pete worked with both us and the insurance company from start to finish. He had excellent ideas for what we might want to do above-and-beyond what insurance was willing to pay for, and he helped us stay within the combined budget by understanding our personal priorities and working with us. The crew's that did the actual work were friendly, professional, and highly skilled. The scope of the work covered a complete kitchen rebuild, paint and flooring throughout the main floor, two complete bathroom remodels, new doors, adding natural gas to the house, redoing the entry and stairs, and several other pieces. The finished product is absolutely beautiful! We wouldn't hesitate to hire Excel General Contractor again; in fact, we are currently planning our next project for the outside of the house!

This is my second project with the Excel Team. And once again, they've exceeded our expectations! We completed a full remodel in the kids bathroom, cleanup work needed in the master bathroom done by an incompetent contractor. Pete and his team were able to fix all the issues. We decided to roll-in some carpentry work in our sunroom too. My only regret was not using Excel when we first moved into our house. I've mentioned this in my previous review but wanted to quickly call out a few key highlights: - Pete and team are very communicative and responsive - Very knowledge and offer some great design and functional suggestions - In addition to the core team, their subs are very nice and have a strong attention to detail. If you're still confused how positive my review is...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EXCEL and look forward to starting my 3rd project with them next year.

The eight month long addition and kitchen remodel went well due entirely to the stellar work ethic and efforts of the personnel who were onsite each and every day. We were very happy with the subs and crew that Excel General Contractor uses. The crew were professional, punctual, and took great care with the details. We had complete faith in Oscar, who primarily led our project, and his team. The final product is beautiful and we are so happy we decided to move forward with such a big project.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND PETE/EXCEL GENERAL CONTRACTORS. After meeting several Contractors (and I mean several) we decided to go with Pete/Excel after reviewing Angies List and recommendations on the Next Door app and it is by far THE BEST decision I've made. After working with a few different contractors over the past couple years I can finally say that I've found Pete/Excel as someone I plan to work with on all my future projects. When I first met Pete I thought he was very engaging, genuine and knowledgeable. We did our initial walk-through and provide some very valuable insight on the upcoming work and even provide some cost effective ways of completing the project. When the project started things moved pretty quickly and the onsite team of Sean and Francis were an absolute pleasure to work with, very knowledgeable and professional and always walked my wife and I through progress at the end of each day, subcontractors always arrived on-time and were very professional and hard working. After everyone left I would go check out the work and can say that I rarely found anything wrong or that needed to be fixed! It was very refreshing to not have to worry about things getting done. Pete was very communicative and responsive (I mean a few minutes responsive) when needed. Pete, Sean, Francis, Sam, George and the rest of the Team....THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I look forward to seeing you all when we start our next project soon.

Had an old garage built in 1964 that was pieced together multiple types of siding on the interior walls and plastic on the ceiling (who know why). Pete's crew came in and removed all the old stuff inside the garage. Discovered 3 missing trusses (not known during the bid process). Fixed those trusses, replaced the windows, side door and garage doors and dry walled the interior and ceiling, added lighting and outlets. The total did not change from the original bid. The workers were very nice and answered any questions we had during the process.

Pete was great to work with. As a general contractor, he was an extremely effective communicator. He was prompt and clear in all communications - phone, text and email. I was impressed with the accuracy of his cost estimation. The project was completed with high quality. I would use them again, and would recommend them to others.

Pete's team did an awesome job. The wood doors and trimming look beautiful, they did a great job with conditioning and staining the wood. They were on time all the time, very professional, thorough and clean. The paint jobs in the bedroom look really nice and done with attention to detail. We are very happy with the result and will definitely hire them again. I really appreciated the very detailed quote and pro-active communication during the entire project.

I came up with some initial drawings for Pete and his architect to give them an idea of what we wanted. After some back and forth with them, we were able to settle on a floor plan very close to our imagined ideas. Pete's crew headed up by Oscar was very professional. Even though the work on the house was a major undertaking, they were able to create a temporary plywood wall in one of the old bedrooms so that during most of the project we had enough bedrooms for our kids. This was huge. As far as subcontractors go, there were a few issues with flaky people, but Pete was able to deal with them/replace them as needed and we were able to get the entire inside portion of the project done by our deadline (before the baby was here). Honestly I think this was mainly due to the boom in the housing market so there is more work than contractors to go around. There was a little outside siding work to wrap up at the end, but we were alright with that since it could happen really anytime without affecting us inside. Pete was also happy to use our painter in the project. We'd used a painter previously that we were very happy with and wanted to use him again, so Pete was ok with this. He had his own guy give us an estimate (which actually was less than our guy was charging), but we ended up using our own. Pete was fine with this - which I really appreciated. We're very happy with the finished product. The new part of our house is in perfect character with the rest of our house both inside and outside. From the outside, you'd never know we have an addition except that the scale of the house is now much grander than before. From the inside, everything flows exactly as we'd hoped, the finishes all match the rest of the house and we have sooo much more space now. We now have enough space that we'll never need to move unless we want to. Also, the new covered deck area is absolutely awesome. We now have a 3-season room that we use all the time. It's fantastic. We made the deck a separate project (the main house addition work was finished in mid-winter, so we waited 'til the summer to do the deck). I got a few bids, for this work - none of the deck companies would put up walls under the overhang the way we wanted, and Pete was able to match them on price while also doing the screen walls. We got vinyl windows that I found online delivered from an east-cost provider and he was able to integrate those into this project, which was great to have it all done by a single contractor. It gives us another ~150 sq ft of living space that we can use for most of the year and I absolutely love it. Budget-wise, we stayed right on point. Pete gave us an itemized price list for all the work, including finishing allowances, to be done from the outset and we stayed within a few percentage points of this throughout the project. We even picked up some finishing materials on our own to save a bit (we got some tile from Costco when they had a sale, other tile from Home Depot that was on closeout - saved several hundred bucks that way). Finally - and this is absolutely key - Pete 100% stands behind his work. We had a few minor issues (totally expected on a project this size) and he always had them resolved quickly. Example, very recently, we had a problem with the backing starting to show through on the mirror in the new bathroom. I called him, he came out and looked at it within a few days. There was no argument needed, Pete just said 'yup, we'll take care of that'. So he ordered the replacement glass, and we now have a replacement mirror installed. This all happened within a couple weeks, with absolutely no headache on our part. This is something that is extremely hard to find. Because of the great service - we plan on hiring Pete again to do a Master Bathroom remodel in a couple years. I'd suggest you do the same!

In a word: Poorly. Paint: Bare spots in bathrooms, they had to come back and redo a closet they missed. They also were highly motivated to paint the house in January (it had been raining for weeks, and was ~40 degrees outside) Drywall: Texture was left on the windows and had to be scraped off, there were nail holes in the (new) kitchen and dining room ceiling that were never explained (and poorly patched) Structure: I have deck post bases that are held on by one screw. The hole they drilled in the concrete directly adjacent to them? Never used, never filled. Plumbing: I have a (new) 4" abs drain line going through an area I'd been hoping to turn into a bathroom. They worked on and spliced into the 4" cast iron stack, brown fluid leaked from the joint until I called their attention to it. Their first attempt at replacing my sump pump had it dumping water right outside the exterior wall of my basement. Roofing: They tore off the roof (without pulling the required permit), and put down new shingles and underlayment. As of early January: we were missing a few ridge shingles, leaving an opening into the attic space, and my inspector found other shingles had been pressed into service as ridge shingles. Concrete: They mis-poured two footings on the first go. (The first stair for both entryways was not the same height as the rest). The deck footing was poured on disturbed soil (my stairs slope in two different directions) One footing was poured directly onto the foundation drainboard, and onto the lowest riser for the stairs (which will rot, and need to be replaced within a few years) Framing: My pocket doors almost fit within their pockets. (one's missing an offset, the other was mis-hung twice and still scrapes on the frame. The frames for the pocket doors "float" and are not secured to the floor. The new exterior door had light shining around it, and the new (preframed) interior door is neither plumb, nor does it open smoothly. (It catches on the carpet, right where it caught on the subflooring before the carpet was installed) Finishes: The window trim sitting in front of me goes from 2 1/2" to 1 1/2", and conflicts with the (newly framed) pocket door/wall. There is a floor grate installed our dining room that leads to the outside (it's been stuffed with fiberglass batting to keep the drafts out). We'd completely replaced the flooring in the house, and no longer have forced-air (a mini-split was installed). To date, I have not gotten an answer as to why they felt the new linoleum needed to be cut into so a (legacy) floor register could be retained there. Exterior flashing needed to be replaced, as the (new clapboard) siding drained water behind the lower siding and the sheathing. One of the gutters sends water rushing towards the house for some reason. Their billing procedures are opaque, their costs are not broken down by category (hours, materials, etc). To their credit, they did itemize the ($300) cost for the (code-required) hand rails they retrofitted onto the porch they'd... already... completed. They mis-installed the range hood. Twice. The communication is fantastic.... when you owe them money, or are possibly sending them business. It's non-existent when you have a question, or are trying to get them to do something. (Photo-documentation of the work being done was promised to us multiple times. To date, we've not received it.)

Besides that we were working for your parents and you were not our client, you were so difficult and odd that it was all I could do to keep all of the workers and subs from quitting your job. Your parents even banned you from going to the jobsite. We did a nice job for your parents and now you write a fantasy like this? You are outrageous!"

We talked to a general contractor that was really nice and we had wanted to go with him, we thought.  But then he brought his architect over that works with him and then they never got back to us, so it's like alright, good.  I guess they're not interested.  He gave us a round about but then he said that they were gonna draw up a proposal, and they didn't; they just didn't, and they never got back to us and I'm like, what's up with that.  So I was disappointed because my husband and I both liked the contractor.  I'm like okay - I wish you would have told us I'm not interested in this job.  We were kind of disappointed, but whatever; moving on.  His name is Peter Lang.  He's very nice and most of the reviews on Angie's List were great, except for a few that didn't have work done, that he didn't get back to.  I guess something better must have come up or he didn't want to work with us or both, I don't know.  Or maybe his architect didn't want to work with us.  I'm thinking we didn't annoy him - I can't imagine.  I wasn't real impressed with the architect, but then again, I'm not real impressed with either now that they didn't get back to us.  It is what it is, and if you're gonna spend a fortune, I don't want to deal with anyone who's not a good communicator, so we're fine.  Like he came over once and then we talked and reviewed some things, and then he came over a second time with his architect, the one he works with, and then we never heard from him again.  He sent me an e-mail saying oh he's catching up on the latest and greatest classes, and I'm like well that's fabulous but we wanted to start like yesterday, not like six years from now.  It takes forever to get building permits and all kinds of nonsense, like who has time to kill?  Nobody.  He's nice, we liked him - my husband liked him, I liked him - and at first before he got here, he seemed to be better about keeping in touch.  I swear, I think it's just because our house is on a corner lot, and it's like jammed up against the neighbor's, there's not a lot of room to work with so I think it's not an easy-peasy.  I shouldn't say that because I'm not an architect or contractor and I think they didn't want to deal with it, but it just would have been more professional if they both contacted us and said, you know what, thanks but we're gonna pass.  I asked for the last name of his architect because I wanted to look him up and see if he was legit, and he didn't give it to me.  I asked for license numbers; they didn't give them to me.  He was very pleasant and personable.  For example, one of the contractors that came out asked me how much are we looking to spend - $200k, $250k - and I'm like yeah, I want to spend as much as I can.  But my husband wasn't home at the time; he was at work, so right away I wanted him to leave but I just played the game until he left.  Communication would have to be way better, like when I asked for license numbers or anything like that, I need it.  If you're not interested I don't care what your reasons are; if you're not 110% into this, then I don't want you here either.  For price I would say maybe A because he seemed like he gave us one of the most reasonable prices.  I have nothing bad to say other than neither one of them communicated well.  I would consider using him in the future only if he was a better communicator and he wanted the job and showed some interest.
