"I paid less than half of a bid I got from a company with lots of people and lots of overhead. And I am confident that my project was of comparable quality. Removed tub and put in a high-quality walk-in shower- ½” cultured marble wall panels, custom-made shelf, solid cultured marble drain pan with texture to prevent slipping, grab bars, high-quality double-sliding glass doors. I wish the project had taken three days instead of four but that is my only complaint. Jay and his assistant did a good job. He had some good money-saving suggestions and was easy to work with. He matched the swirls on the wall panels (including the indented shelf!) and made the shower walls flow together. Great job!"

"Rene came out quickly and measured and verified all that we needed within hours. Explained work, costs involved and time required. He was over 25% less and the other bids, provided the countertop exactly as we requested and with no splices. Others contractors said they'd have to have a seam. Rene got it all started early and completed ahead of schedule including the countertop, sink and cabinets and even modified components as needed. I highly recommend him for any remodel and will definitely have him back for our bathrooms in the future"

"Excellent experience. Grace was on top of everything! She provided feedback, guidance and lots of support. She responded to all of my texts and emails promptly even on the weekends. Her installation crew were very professional and skilled. They made sure everything was the way I wanted it before they left. "I have used Alex on several occasions, but most recently I had two tub surrounds retiled and they look great! Alex tore out the old tile, replaced some sheet rock as needed, replaced the old plumbing for the faucet and shower, and retiled. He provided all materials except the faucets. Alex is prompt, finishes on time, and always leaves the work area spotless. His pricing is excellent and his workmanship is first class. I highly recommend him and would definitely call him again."

"I've used Granite Land for a couple years now in several houses and remodels that I've done. They are always the ones I refer to other people needing countertops done. They have great pricing and high quality installs."

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

You can cut food on tough, scratch-resistant granite countertops. However, these hard surfaces can quickly dull your knife blades, and continual cutting in the same spot can eventually lead to marks forming and compromising the protective sealant. As with any countertop material, it’s always best to use a chopping board.

Engineered stone countertops range in price between $60 and $200 per square foot. The three main types are quartz, recycled glass, and sintered stone. The most affordable is sintered stone, which is ideal for outdoor kitchens and costs $60 to $100 per square foot.

Recycled glass countertops fall in the middle at $65 to $140 per square foot and offer a very distinct look. Meanwhile, quartz counters are on the higher end of the price range at $50 to $200 per square foot. Popular quartz options mimic the look of natural stones like marble and granite.

With the cost of kitchen countertops ranging from $1,900 to $4,300, you’ll want to choose a countertop material that’s durable and cost-effective. Marble countertops will come in on the high-end, whereas corian, quartz, stainless steel, and granite will run in the middle range. Butcher block and laminate are the most budget-friendly—and many DIYers choose to install butcher block on their own because it’s one of the more accessible countertops.

Fortunately, there are many types of heatproof countertops. Granite, quartzite, concrete, and stainless steel are all fiery contenders. These surfaces work best in busy kitchens where hot pots, pans, and baking sheets are part of the daily routine. Plus, their durability means you get a long-lasting work surface that won’t flinch at a bit of heat or heavy use. However, many stone and concrete counters require a sealer, which is typically not heatproof.

Using water when cutting stone drastically reduces the amount of dust that comes off the stone. It’s beneficial to cut down on the amount of dust for respiratory and other safety reasons, such as keeping your vision clear while using an electric tool. Even with protective eyewear, the dust can still cloud your safety glasses. You should always wear protective gear when cutting stone.
