"I highly recommend Alfa Builders & Remodeling! Moe did a phenomenal job renovating my home and completed the project within the promised timeframe. He remodeled both bathrooms, installed new countertops and walls, renovated the kitchen with beautiful countertops and cabinets, and installed new flooring throughout the entire house. What impressed me most was Moe's professionalism, positive attitude, and exceptional attention to detail. He takes pride in his work, and it truly shows in the finished product. The quality of the craftsmanship exceeded my expectations, and the entire renovation process was smooth from start to finish. "Chimney was cleaned and I am good to go for another 7-8 years. My dryer vent was almost completely clogged. Now that it has been cleaned I can rest easier knowing that it is not a fire hazard. The owner is very professional and courteous. He is very knowledgeable and provided me with some suggestions regarding the grate I currently have in my fireplace. He came recommended by a neighbor and I am So glad I reached out. I will definitely you him again."

"We did a lot of searching before we made such a large purchase.  Angie's list was our primary resource and we are so glad we made our selection based on the reviews.  Lesli is such a joy to work with, she is always cheerful, helpful and knowledgeable.  Ash is a straight forward guy and will give you his best price and make recommendations if you're not sure of the type or color you want in flooring.  The installers were very professional - they worked so hard.  The existing flooring was put down with a type of glue and sealant that made it impossible to use their large sander to remove.  Those guys hand-scraped two rooms of tile and had to cut and saw out the existing hardwood floors.  They worked non-stop except for a quick lunch.  The boards between the tile and wood flooring did not match initially and had to be removed and other re-installed.  Lesli searched for the right type and it was re-installed in just a few days.  I would highly recommend Fine Floors."

"

None of the burners on our GE Monogram gas stove were getting a lighting spark.  Brian arrived when scheduled and It was obvious that he knew what he was doing.  He quickly diagnosed the problem and explained our options to us very clearly.  K & M will be the first call I make when we have appliance issues in the future.  Also thought the price was very reasonable.

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

You can burn wood with oak wilt, as heat from the fire destroys the fungus, and smoke won’t threaten healthy trees. However, wood of unknown origin should be burned during the dormant season—do not store wood in the warmer months for the winter season. If you harvest oak, let it dry in the sun before transporting it elsewhere.

No, not all chimneys need a damper. However, most chimneys do, especially in newer homes. Most gas-burning fireplaces cannot function safely without a damper. Only some older wood-burning fireplaces can function safely without one. A chimney without a damper is essentially just an open hole in the roof of your home.

According to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), the leading cause of house fires is cooking accidents, followed by fires started by heating equipment. Electrical issues are the third most common cause of house fires. The best way to keep your home protected is to use caution when cooking and never leave a stove or oven unattended while in use. You can also keep up with chimney cleaning and avoid using space heaters to reduce the risk.

The short answer is yes, but the longer answer is more complex. Unless the fireplace is ventless by design, you’ll need some type of exhaust pipe system to safely send fumes and other harmful byproducts out of the house. Even then, ventless fireplaces are not always permitted because they do keep the byproducts inside of your house. Ventless fireplaces are safest when installed in spaces that are themselves well-ventilated, like large rooms with lots of windows.

Professional chimney cleaning, also known as chimney sweeping, typically costs between $130 and $400, with a national average of about $260. The final price depends on several factors, including the size and accessibility of your chimney, the number of chimneys being cleaned, and the type of chimney you have. A standard cleaning involves a chimney sweep scraping creosote, dirt, and other debris from the entire flue. Many professionals also include an inspection with this service, but the cost of any necessary repairs is typically extra. Additional services, such as installing a fireplace damper, will also increase the total cost. It is recommended to schedule a cleaning and inspection annually, preferably before you begin using your fireplace for the season, and to get price quotes from at least three companies to find the best deal.
