"Very knowledgeable carpenter. The French doors I ordered for my shed were too wide and too tall for the opening. Mr. Phillips enlarged the opening by moving existing 2x4s and reattaching them. He mad sure the doors were hung level. He attached all hardware and installed the new lock set."

"It went beyond excellent. A+ I have had quite a few not so great experiences with companies that I have hired to do work on our aging house. I had come to accept that the standard of workmanship I could expect in today's world was different from the one my father and grandfather had worked in. Power House proved me wrong! I first hired them to power wash my dirty home. I was so impressed with the professional, friendly team that cleaned years of grime away that I contacted Power House again…this time to repair my porch, paint it and repair my garage. I wish I had taken some before pictures because this was a big job and I wasn't expecting beauty...just a repair that would keep the mailman from falling through the porch. Well, once again I was blown away by the attention to detail, professionalism and pride in a job well done exhibited by the Power House employees….craftsmen I will say. The painters took so much care to make sure every detail was crisp and cleanly sanded and painted. And the carpenter (although I feel like he was much more than that) was…WOW! Just WOW! I will definitely hire them again!"

Customers say: Quality work

"I am a micro manager...and he handled it well...lol..He removed a termite eaten door frame and installed a steel door which he had to alter...making it it 73 inches from 80. In my opinion he pulled it off flawlessly. He also adjusted a door. I have more work for him, but my water heater crapped the bed the day he showed up... no relief."

"From the initial visit with the salesman to the production coordinators to the project managers to the boots on the ground (or roof) my experience with Home Genius Exteriors has been amazing! Tony, the Project Manager, is incredibly knowledgeable and personable. He took the time to walk me through every phase of my roof and siding replacement. He was very responsive, even during off-work hours. He addressed every concern I had and was thoughtful in his responses. He was very thorough when conducting inspections, identifying action items I didn’t see, even if it meant additional work for his field crew at no extra cost. I can’t say enough about the field crews for both my roof and siding replacements. They were incredible and they didn’t treat my house as “just the next job”. They catered to my house’s needs, worked extremely efficiently, and did everything I asked of them. I would highly recommend Home Genius Exteriors for roof, siding, and gutter needs!"

"Curtis, our project manager, was great! He was responsive to our requests and concerns â very easy to work with. I thought he managed the varied trades necessary for the building of our sunroom well. The whole project went smoothly after the county finally issued the building permits. I would definitely recommend Stoneridge and would use their services again â especially with Curtis as the project manager. And, Curtis had a crew clean up after all construction was done leaving us with a sparkling new sunroom. Thank you Stoneridge!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.

Professionals charge between $60 and $95 per hour to install ornamental porch columns. The amount of time they need varies based on the condition of the porch, whether they need to remove old columns, and if there is any damage to your porch's structure. This cost can increase if more issues come up during the installation process.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.
