"We highly recommend Steve Phillips. He has fully remodeled one of our bathrooms, replaced our barn roof, put a roof on our pergola and repaired two of our skylights. We were absolutely thrilled with the results of all of the projects. His quotes are reasonable, he's very thorough, easy to reach by phone, completes the projects in the estimated time frame and leaves the project site impeccable upon completion. Steve is top-notch very trustworthy and we look forward to working with him again on future remodeling projects."

"The manager came and surveyed the job. He had me take pictures to see if there was a leak coming from the ceiling of my porch. I took the photos and there wasn't any water. I took the porch light down to check in there as well. No water. I sent the photos in and in a few days had a quote for putting up soffit. I added one item to the list, which was putting the porch swing back up. I had a new quote very quickly. Once paid, I had to wait several weeks but I was on the schedule. The two gentlemen installing the soffit came out and took measurements, left to get the parts, and returned quickly. They got it all up in a couple of hours, including putting the swing and light back in place. Looks great! My only critique is that the manager didn't come out to follow up on the job to discuss what they would do, but I take some of the responsibility of not asking enough questions. Thank you very much!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Very friendly. Arrived same day as I request the quote. He performed the work the very next and was punctual. Great work! Only minor issue was some waste material from the door frame repair was left in the backyard after the job was complete. Still would highly recommend."

"I hired Ultimate Craftsman to tear down an old deck and build a new larger screened in porch with sky lights in it's place. The designer Dave really listened to what I wanted and got on paper my exact vision. The owner Mark always answered his phone and was quick to address any concerns. He used quality materials and professional craftsman. His carpenter John and his roofer Rodney showed great pride in their work. The end result was exactly what I asked them to build and we have received many compliments from our neighbors."

"Curtis, our project manager, was great! He was responsive to our requests and concerns â very easy to work with. I thought he managed the varied trades necessary for the building of our sunroom well. The whole project went smoothly after the county finally issued the building permits. I would definitely recommend Stoneridge and would use their services again â especially with Curtis as the project manager. And, Curtis had a crew clean up after all construction was done leaving us with a sparkling new sunroom. Thank you Stoneridge!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Homeowners can increase the usefulness of their garage space in other ways, and one option is to extend the length of the garage by making it deeper. The process is similar to traditional garage extensions, but the end product is a garage with a different layout rather than additional parking spaces.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

A-frame homes are on the smaller side. While there’s no set square footage amount it has to be, it will usually come in around 1,000 square feet or smaller.
