Over 20 years of experience in the home comfort and efficiency field. We find solutions to the issues that your HVAC company can't. Dusty homes, hot and cold spots, high utility bills, drafty fireplaces, rooms above garages, cold floors, dirty carpet edges, and much more can be fixed by us. We provide "comfort and energy solutions".

"A total disaster. An inexperienced, untrained crew created more issues than I had before they began their work. My goal was to increase comfort levels in my senior-living, one-level home built on a slab that is super cold in the winter. I hate as a senior being taken advantage of. I was very naive. I have spent thousands and now am having to throw more good money after bad to try and make my home comfortable to live in. It is so bad; I am ready to sell! And I can’t afford to after all I have spent, without taking a loss on the sale. They dense packed my walls and now I am colder; in the process, they removed the flashing above my windows which now leak. I had to hire a window installer to replace the flashing that their incompetent crew removed. They failed to put back the siding properly, so it was hanging off my house. Once again, I had to hire a handy man to refasten the siding the crew removed while dense packing. And the dense packing was useless as it didn't enter the cavities that already had batt insulation. While spray foaming triangle boxes, boots, and plenum, they sealed off all my dampers resulting in zero air flow. They reluctantly came back and had to dig out the dampers that they had foamed over. In fact, they over-foamed at junction boxes, boots, and plenum so that HVAC techs couldn't even tune my system. There is 2 feet of foam, yet hot air is rushing out of the flexible ducts that weren’t sealed properly. Yet there remain gaps on my boxes, boots, and plenum. Just today, a HVAC tech walked me around the attic, and I could feel the hot air rushing into my attic at the junctions, boxes, boots, and plenums that are all wide open; that I paid to have sealed. I almost threw up; I am heating my attic! And the tech said it looks like a dog was in my attic as the Comfenergy crews failed to put back my blown-in fiberglass insulation they removed when trying to foam, so there is no insulation at the boxes and boots. They were simply careless and failed to rake it back and even out my insulation resulting in further cold spots I didn't have. In short, I now will have to hire another company to blow in more insulation and make sure it is even, so I don't have cold/hot spots. Additionally, they left the lights on in the attic, didn't replace the attic access foam barrier, and failed to seal the major penetrations including light cans/recessed lights and supply vents I paid for. Next came the bathroom exhaust fans; they were installed improperly and didn't vent because the outside flaps remained closed, while inside a cold draft came in my bathroom because the foam sealing, I paid for wasn't done properly. So now both my bathrooms are drafty. They were cold; now they are cold AND drafty. The HVAC tech today remarked he felt badly that I have two or more space heaters in every room, including the bathrooms! I strongly recommend carefully watching the crew if you ever choose to allow them to do any work for you. I trusted them. And I regret that. I was naive. I was cold. Rather I am still cold! I trusted their salesperson. The crew that did mine were either let go or quit. In fact, one of them still calls seeking to do side work. I politely declined. I suggest you do the same and seek a competent company that you can trust, does the work you paid for properly, and doesn't damage your home."

PermaTreat Pest Control, a member of the National Pest Management Association, has served industrial, commercial, government and residential customers in the Central and Northern Virginia areas since 1967. PermaTreat is one of the largest pest control companies in Virginia, utilizing Integrated Pest Management practices in order to protect health, home and the environment. PermaTreat is also a proud member of the Virginia Pest Management Association, a trade association who’s mission is to proactively promote and uphold the professional and ethical standards which will result in quality business practices to the benefit of it’s membership and the general public in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

"Terrible company. They are not upfront about cost of services and tack on additional fees without informing you. This is a company that is only after the money and hook you into a contract. The product is not even very effective. I have watched them perform the service via my home security system while I have been away and the yard guard is a joke. They casually apply it around the perimeter of your home, but isn't it intended to guard your entire yard? This company is a joke. Never again."

Hands on owner, who does and oversees the majority of the work, at times employing sub-contractors to work with me on jobs requiring specialized licenses, major plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Projects are always completed and if problems arise after the work is done, we will come back and try to resolve to everyone's satisfaction, not just leave you hanging. A lot of jobs obtained by word of mouth and we have many returning customers & references. We try to stay flexible & accommodating to the specialized needs of all our customers and do all we can to achieve the highest customer satisfaction possible. This is very important to us, and something we don't take lightly. A happy customer is a returning customer; and we want all our customers to be returning customers.

Since our founding in 1975, we have consistently delivered excellent service to those needing insurance repairs. By focusing on clients and operating with integrity, we have developed a reputation as a top performer in our industry and grown to serve multiple regions across the nation. Our experience enables us to handle the most detailed and complex repairs with expert precision, while guiding owners through the process and treating their properties as our own.

"Jenkins Restoration came to knock on my door on the same day my house caught fire. They started to work on my house, putting boards on windows without my approval. A few days later, after my family was released from the hospital, their salesmen met us in the hotel and began telling us everything we wanted to hear, saying a lot of good things about Jenkins Restoration. He was very convincing, but they did everything to secure my house reconstruction contract. Over the course of one year, which is how long it took them to finish rebuilding my house, three different project managers oversaw the construction. They were disorganized and dysfunctional. Each time the project manager changed, my house construction paused and communication with the previous manager was lost, creating a difficult environment between me and them. Their general manager, Brian Asbury, was arrogant and out of touch when I started to complain about their poor performance, lack of customer service, and empathy for my family. My house construction was supposed to take 6 months to complete, but it took them a year. Even after a year, I had to rush to move in because my insurance didn't want to cover my rental house any longer. Jenkins Restoration never fully completed my house, and in the end, I had to settle with them to move on with my life. Here is my advice: if you hire Jenkins Restoration or anyone else, study the work scope approved by your insurance for your home. Jenkins Restoration added many extra demands to my home work scope, which my insurance company approved for thousands of dollars, but they never completed the work. They used cheap materials for my house, including flat paint, to save money for themselves. Be involved in the materials purchasing for your house, as they only hire low-paying contractors, many of whom don't speak English. Jenkins Restoration prioritizes money over customer care. Additionally, when they are counting your personal belongings, be present and take pictures of each item. Contractors from Jenkins Restoration who counted my belongings stole many items from my house, including electronics and tools from my garage. They also scratched my brand new $3000 Samsung refrigerator and refused to replace it. To ensure the money approved by your insurance for house construction is properly used, know what is in the work scope and make sure everything is completed as listed. If not, make a claim as it is your money. If you are not familiar with the work scope, they may take advantage of you and not complete the work as approved by your insurance. My experience with Jenkins Restoration was awful, and I do not recommend them. If diversity is important to you, note that Jenkins Restoration does not exemplify this value, as they are dishonest and lack diversity, consisting of only one race of greedy individuals."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Your house may be cold even if the heat is on because of bad insulation, gaps in doors, small holes pulling hot air from the home, or excess humidity. The heater itself might be malfunctioning. For this problem, you’d need to talk to an HVAC pro. If you have a gas heating system (most do) this should be considered an urgent job as natural gas could be leaking in your home.

Roof vents help cool a house because as they allow hot air to escape, the temperature regulates inside the attic. If vents are defective or there are not as many as there should be, the attic becomes hot and stuffy. Without roof vents, air conditioning has to work harder to maintain a consistent temperature in the attic.

The type of insulation you need in your home depends on your location, the installation site, and your region’s climate. According to Energy Star, insulation in homes in the Southern United States should have an R-value of between R30 and R60 in attics and R13 to R25 in the floors and walls; homes in moderate climates require R values of R38 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls; and homes in northern states require an R value of R49 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls.

PEX pipe does not need to be insulated if passing through interior walls or insulated external walls. However, despite its resistance to cracking, you should still insulate PEX pipe in unheated areas if you experience cold winters in your local area. Otherwise, repeated freezing and thawing may weaken the pipes over time and create the risk of bursting.

Yes, eco-friendly blown-in insulation options include materials made from recycled cellulose or wool. These offer excellent thermal performance and sustainability, reducing energy consumption and environmental impact while enhancing home efficiency.
