"It was fine. They were prompt and gave me an estimate on the spot when they did the inspection. They came the next week or several days after and put in everything. I'll give them 5 stars but they never get back to me until now. It depends if depends if I'm going to use them again if they get back at me and answer all the questions that I have."

"Very, very disappointing experience; Lux replaced the foundation of my 1850 log cabin. The design was bad, the communication was bad, the execution was bad. Throughout the entire process, they were making mistakes. I now need to pay another company to fix the mess they left behind. I would strongly suggest not using this company!"

My primary business is consulting on buildings that have construction defects that allow moisture intrusion, rot, mold, etc. I also work with builders on new buildings to assist in the sequencing and selection of products to prevent moisture intrusion, promote long-term building performance, ie., concrete curing, roof flashing, window and door installation, moisture barriers, basement waterproofing, etc.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Most heat in a garage is lost through air leaks in windows, doors, and walls. This is especially true if the walls are uninsulated, which is common in garages. Consider insulating your garage before installing a garage heater to ensure the heat it generates isn’t wasted, making it less efficient.

The average cost to install insulation is around $1,800, but you could pay anywhere between $500 and $4,500, depending on various factors. Some of the things that have a significant influence on your pricing include the following:

  • Size of the area

  • Type and R-value of the insulation

  • Whether your space is finished or unfinished

  • Accessibility of the area

  • Your geographical location

  • Amount of site preparation, especially for blown-in insulation

  • Whether or not you need old insulation removed

EIFS stucco can last 30 to 60 years or more when correctly installed and regularly maintained. EIFS’s lifespan can be significantly shortened by improper installation, moisture intrusion, unfixed damage, and a lack of maintenance. To get the most life out of your EIFS stucco, use an experienced and qualified installer and follow all maintenance and repair recommendations.

STC (Sound Transmission Class) ratings tell you how well something blocks airborne noise. It’s a single number that sums up how much sound a material, like a window, can stop across regular speech frequencies. The higher the number, the better the sound reduction. A typical single-pane window hovers around STC 25 (where you can hear normal conversations), while well-sealed, double-pane options can push past STC 45 (which blocks out loud speech and most music). Just keep in mind that STC doesn’t cover everything—low rumbles like bass or thunder can sneak through—so pairing methods are always ideal for the most peace and quiet.

Yes, exposure to fiberglass insulation can cause harm to your skin and eyes. However, this typically refers to the fiberglass insulation that is mostly used in walls and attics. Fiberglass doors don’t pose risks for fiberglass exposure because they're fully encased in polymer cladding.
