"It is hard to describe the high level of professionalism and execution in the task set before them after the storm on 6/15/2023 that seemed to pick and choose which house would be spared and which would be utterly destroyed. Mine was the latter. Alvarez Painting Co. has spoiled me to the point that I don’t foresee any future home projects being done by anybody else than this Company/Family. I have had my homes repaired after hail, toilet floods, storms, etc.; more than once (It’s Texas) and not a single company in the past has exceeded my expectations in the way that Alvarez Painting Co. has. To say that TLC is their mantra is an understatement. Several days I observed his team work on our home. Paul’s true goal seems to be that if his own mother would not be satisfied, then neither is he. His team loves him and they perform at the same level of quality and professionalism that he does. His standards are higher not just than a homeowner, but rather higher than anybody in the industry. His knowledgebase is both broad and detailed. Paul and his team’s ability to detect, identify and repair items both for the homeowner and the insurance company is unparalleled. I am fortunate that my wife and kids love our home more than ever. To me that's the true test. Thank you, Paul and Team."

"The quote and messaging from Brandon was great, prompt, and helpful. Everything was fair and consistent and well handled. The work done by Catalina is wonderful, thorough, and performed at a high bar. It wasn’t cheap, but for everything to be executed so well it doesn’t have to be. Very satisfied with this investment."

Buffing and Polishing questions, answered by experts

Acid can seriously damage granite countertops and lead to etching and erosion. This is why cleaning with vinegar isn’t recommended. Other acidic items that you should keep away from your granite countertops include:

  • Citrus

  • Acetone nail polish remover

  • Tomatoes

  • Ammonia

In addition, always steer clear of using bleach on or around your granite as it will degrade the countertop’s sealant quickly.

In many cases, it’s worth it to restore stone. Stone restoration generally costs less than replacing the stone entirely, helping to save on the cost of your project while still giving your home’s stone a polished appearance. However, if your stone is very cracked or crumbling to the point of compromising the structural integrity of your home, you may want to consider replacing it. Stone flooring costs range from $6 to $20 per square foot on average.

The frequency for sealing granite countertops depends on several factors, including the type of sealant used, the color of the granite, and how heavily the countertops are used. As a general guideline, resealing is often recommended every 12 to 18 months, but some sources suggest it could be as often as every few months or at least once a year.

The type of sealant is a major factor: water-based sealants may need reapplication every six months to a year, while more durable solvent-based sealants can last for five to 10 years. Additionally, factors like heavy kitchen traffic, frequent use of acidic cleaners, and lighter granite colors may require more frequent sealing to prevent staining.

To determine if your countertops need resealing, you can perform a simple water test. Place a few drops of water or a wet paper towel on an inconspicuous area of the granite. After 10 to 15 minutes, check the spot. If the water has beaded up, the seal is still intact. If the water has been absorbed and darkened the stone, it's time to apply a new coat of sealant. You can choose to seal the granite yourself or hire a professional to ensure it's done correctly.

Stone restoration and polishing enhance the beauty and longevity of stone surfaces by repairing damage and restoring their original shine and functionality.

It depends on the material. Sandstone, slate, and granite can be slippery in wet weather. Applying a sealant to the stone can often stop it from absorbing moisture and may reduce the likelihood of slipping. If you're concerned about losing footing, a safer option might be bluestone or concrete.
