"Carlos and his team at Distinctive Enterprises & Painting, LLC recently painted the exterior and interior of our home, along with staining our deck railing and did an incredible job! They provided a thorough estimate and I was able to get all my questions answered along the way. Carlos was incredibly prompt and provided excellent communication the entire way. Prices were incredibly fair and the attention to detail he and his crew put in was evident. I would highly recommend the team at Distinctive Enterprises & Painting, LLC for any of your painting/staining needs! Thank you Carlos and team!"

"I couldn't be happier! We had some cedar siding around the garage door that looked horrible, rotted, warped etc. Sunshine Painting were the only company willing to replace the handful of boards. Other painting contractors just wanted to paint over it. The house and deck turned out great. The project took 3 days and the painters cleaned up at the end of each day."

"It went very well. Hayden was very professional, timely, communicated well, and did an excellent job on our backyard deck. The deck needed cleaning up and staining. Over a couple of days, he power washed the deck well, let it dry thoroughly, sanded it and then stained it a redwood stain color we requested, that he provided. He was very pleasant, thorough and cleaned up the surrounding area after the job. The deck looks beautiful. I asked if he dealt with fences as well, and he indicated he does, so when ready, we will call on Ray’s Pressure Washing again! It will be soon!"

"Another company that couldn't fit me in gave them my name. I explained on the phone that this was to finish an unfinished job, and maybe they missed that and bid on the whole thing instead... otherwise I can't explain how their bid was two or three times what I am getting elsewhere ($4000 vs. $1500-2000).

UPDATED: Follow-up to provider response. Siding was painted by a licensed professional with decades of experience, who also happened to be a family friend. Competitive bids from experienced, licensed professionals for two coats of paint are coming in for $750-$2000. I'm sure your quality must be excellent for the rates you are able to charge, but your customers are paying a premium to get. I have more affordable options available which will do what I need.  Thanks again for your time."

"We requested quotes from four contractors to paint our single-level 1,300 square foot house and 8'x12' shed. Not only was Ric the only one to respond, but he emailed us less than an hour after we requested quotes and came over that same day...and it was on a Sunday. Talk about a great first impression! He sent his quote the very next day, and it was about what we expected to pay. We are very happy with the work that Ric and his crew did. Ric is very personable and professional. He listened to what we had to say, and made some recommendations such as caulking the siding where necessary, which we agreed to have him do. His crew came over a couple of days before they were scheduled to start work to pressure-wash our house and shed. The actual painting took only two days, and there is absolutely no overspray or paint drips on the concrete or on our deck. They cleaned up after themselves and the house looks brand new. We've already referred them to two friends who are thinking about having their houses painted next year."

"Hever and his crew did a wonderful job of painting our house, porch and decks. They worked hard all day and were careful as they painted. They were all very professional. Hever made sure everything was painted to my satisfaction.. He and his crew were all very pleasant to work with. They did a great job at a very fair price. I would definitely hire them again and recommend them to others."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Painted decks typically require a new coat about once every ten years. In between new coats, it's best to maintain your deck by regularly removing debris, washing it down with non-abrasive cleaners, and staying ahead of structural issues, such as loose boards and rotting wood. In some cases, painting a small section of your deck affected by damage or the sun can lower your costs and workload.

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.

Beyond liquid rubber, homeowners can use sealants, stains, membranes, or tapes as waterproofing options. Oil-based or water-based sealants soak into the wood, creating a moisture-resistant barrier. Waterproofing stains—available in transparent, semi-transparent, and solid colors—add both protection and style to your deck. For heavy-duty waterproofing, deck membranes and waterproof tapes can be applied under the deck boards to direct water away from the structure below. Whatever method you choose, clean and prep the deck first to ensure the best, longest-lasting results.
