"Mike was fantastic! He got me on at the schedule same day and was excellent about communicating the timing for his arrival. He did a phenomenal job quickly and with minimal mess and a very tidy cleanup. The work looks amazing! Mike was also very personable and I was very comfortable with him."

Independently owned drywall company. Material payments requested up front; most jobs billed at completion; larger work billed in thirds (pre-payment, mid-point payment and final payment).

"I had originally hired a different contractor who never finish the job. Phil and his amazing crew came in and did amazing fast work. Iâ m so impressed I would highly recommend them. They remodel our basement where there was a kitchen living room and bedroom. They completed in within a reasonable amount of time and very fair on their pricing."

MAI Preconstruction LLC was born out of the passion for the construction process from the pre-bidding stage to completion. MAI's founders met while they were interns completing their architecture and engineering degrees in Tijuana, Mexico in 2017. This experience provided us with valuable insight on the trails and tribulations of designing and building projects in Mexico. After the internship & university was finished both of our founders worked as estimators in San Diego, CA and Portland, OR (concrete and drywall) respectively honing their skills in order to achieve the best results. Seeing the market opportunities in the Pacific Northwest, both of the estimators decide to establish a company in the Portland Metro Area. In March 2023 MAI Preconstruction LLC is founded, formalizing the company that has been built since 2017. This company would start off as an estimating consulting firm in the Portland Metro Area and San Diego (remotely). Following the market tendencies and personal goals of having their own construction company, the licensing process though the CCB board in Oregon is started, with the license being obtained in January 2024 Specialty Commercial and Residential Contracting CCB 249307 Since then, MAI Preconstruction LLC has grown exponentially through word of mouth clientele because of the results and problem solving that we provide. We aren’t incased in a single trade and can handle a variety of trades at the same time with our inhouse labor specialists. At MAI Preconstruction LLC we have grown through our values of clear communication, empathy, problem solving and excellent customer service to a point were we can offer to take a project from its inception to its conclusion. We are looking to grow and establish lasting relationships for generations to come.

Drywall questions, answered by experts

It's generally recommended to hang drywall on the ceiling first before moving on to the walls. This sequence allows the ceiling sheets to provide support for the vertical wall sheets. By attaching the ceiling drywall initially, you establish a solid framework to align and attach the wall panels accurately. This method ensures a seamless and sturdy connection between the ceiling and walls, resulting in a more professional finish.

Drywall tape is made of paper, while drywall mesh is made of fiberglass or metal. Drywall mesh patches are suitable for repairing small holes in drywall, while paper drywall tape holds a crease better for corners. You need joint compound to adhere drywall tape to the wall, while mesh patches may be self-adhesive.

There shouldn’t be any gaps between your walls and ceiling. These can be fixed with joint compound but that is only a fix, and it’s much better if your drywall fits correctly in the first place. Sometimes gaps can appear if your foundation shifts significantly but if this is the case, you have a much bigger problem than patching drywall.

Furring strips, thin strips of wood or metal, are not always required for ceiling drywall installation. If the ceiling surface is even and in good condition, drywall can be directly attached to the ceiling joists using screws. However, furring strips become essential when dealing with irregular surfaces or when additional insulation or soundproofing is needed. They create a level substrate for attaching the drywall. Ultimately, the decision to use furring strips depends on the condition of the existing ceiling and the specific requirements of the project.

You should do a little bit of sanding between adding coats of mud. Knock down any ridges or significantly imperfect areas through sanding, which should help you apply the next coat of mud smoothly. If your first coat of mud is pretty smooth after it dries, a quick sanding is all you’ll need. Don’t forget to wipe away any dust after each sanding process.
