Small jobs welcome

"We hired Sunnyside Painting to clean and stain our Deck. They did such an amazing job we hired them to repair and stain another deck that we had at our rental property. They are very focused on quality and provide a very professional service at a VERY competitive price. I plan to hire them for another painting project later this summer. I highly recommend them."

"Tyler and his crew were very professional and easy to work with and did an excellent job repainting our 1930s tudor-style home and garage. He patiently helped us pick colors and provided many samples, and we couldn't be happier with the results.
Shades of Rose made a very competitive bid and, more importantly, demonstrated that they could safely and competently handle the lead-abatement issues that are so common among older homes like ours. Several other bidders whined and moaned about the recent regulations for lead treatment -- one bidder even recommended that we completely replace our cedar siding!  Shades of Rose provided real solutions and put us at ease.

"Vadim & Slavic devoted considerable unpaid time communicating expectations before starting work. We knew what to expect, and nothing went over budget. That's rare. Their balance of professionalism, courtesy and initiative was ideal. Not pushy, not too soft either. Just right. The subcontracted pressure washing prep team was equally courteous and detail-oriented. If you're staining a cedar deck, preparation is everything, and nothing was missed by the cleaning/prep team. Alex and Max did a beautiful job both painting deck railings and applying stain evenly to our perfectly prepped deck. Our property was protected from stray paint splatter because the taping job was perfect. No mess was left for us to clean up. In short, an A+ job. Highly recommended!"

"I hired Pait Paul LLC to paint a table, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! The attention to detail, smooth finish, and professional craftsmanship were absolutely outstanding. They truly transformed the table into a beautiful piece that looks better than I could have imagined. I was so impressed with their work ethic and skill that I’m already planning to hire them again for a wall painting project. "David Jackson and his crew did an outstanding job for us painting our home and repairing a significant portion of the hardy plank and framing under our front porch. The crew was professional, friendly and willing to spend time answering questions. David also personally took the time to explain concerns he saw with the house and made some recommendations to us going forward. I'd highly recommend hiring Millenium."

"Global One painting was fabulous. They were timely, used the paint they said were going to, and fixed a poor caulking job left over from a previous painter (Priority One). We used them to finish a job that we initially gave to another painter - we should have gone with them from the start! Whole heartedly recommend!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.

You’ll want to avoid excessively hot or humid conditions, so it’s best to apply your stain in late spring to early fall. It's also important to watch the weather forecast and aim for days when there isn’t rain expected for at least three days. For new decks, allow the wood to season beforehand for at least four to eight weeks.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.

Many decking oils can help slow down algae growth, but they don't completely stop it. These oils work by sealing the wood, which reduces moisture and, therefore, algae growth. Some decking oils also help protect against UV damage, but they need to be reapplied according to the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the decking stays protected.

Yes, it is generally a very good idea to seal your deck after pressure washing. Power washing removes not only dirt and debris but also a thin layer of wood, leaving the surface exposed and more susceptible to weathering. Sealing is almost always needed after this process. After a general cleaning, sealing isn't automatically necessary if the existing sealant is still intact. You can test the surface by placing a few drops of water on it. If the water beads up, the sealant is working. If it soaks into the wood, it's time to apply a new sealant. If it has been a few years, it's wise to remove the old sealant, wash the deck, and reseal for maximum protection.
