"We were nervous about having our cabinets painted white, but I saw work Distinctive Enterprises did at my friend's home and was so impressed. We hired them to paint our kitchen cabinets white and my husband and I could not be happier with the outcome. I had tears in my eyes when I walked in and saw it finished. Carlos and his team were kind and punctual. There was a lot of plastic put up to cover our walls, floor and even the ceiling. After they finished the job, you would never have known it looked like a painting factory earlier that day. I highly recommend Distinctive Enterprises for any paint job, and I am sure we will be hiring them again for a future paint project."

"Samantha was responsive in providing a painting quote. We got several quotes and it was the most thorough and reasonably priced. Some siding needed to be replaced and her carpenter quickly gave a separate quote for repairing this. We were traveling and they were flexible in working around our schedule. Ben the carpenter did a great job replacing dry rotted siding and a fence. There was one issue and he quickly resolved it. The paint crew led by Esteban did a quality job. They were thorough in the cleaning and other preparation. I noticed a missed spot or two, but they got back to these on their own without a mention from me. My wife appreciated the very limited damage to the border plants despite the challenge of working around them. We would definitely recommend this company for similar painting projects."

Customers say: True professional

"Homan Painting is a two-man operation. Jim and his brother gave us a reasonable bid and so we hired them. They were professional and reliable. They prepped the house by power washing and doing some scraping. They don't scrape old paint as much as other companies I have seen a worked with. Instead they scrape some and then use a product that adheres to the old paint and walls and is supposed to keep the new paint from flaking off. Fingers crossed this will work. It took about 10 days from start to finish. They did a good job and were pleasant to work with."

Small jobs welcome

"Carlos painted my home and shop 3 years ago and did an excellent job. I got a bid for painting my deck railing and staining the deck itself. The bid came quickly and very reasonable. The job was done quickly and just as we had agreed upon. You wonâ t be disappointed."

"I chose Shades of Rose Painting solely from the reviews on Angie's List and  wasn't disappointed.
Tyler was professional from beginning to end. We went through a major remodel on our home several years ago and Tyler was more responsive and professional than any contractor we've ever worked with. He and his crew were on time the day of the job and for every meeting, did the work as promised and at the agreed upon cost., and touch-up was done in a timely manner. Any questions or concerns I had were addressed quickly and to my satisfaction. Working with Tyler was a pleasure and I have no hesitation recommending him and his company highly.

"Soundview Painting LLC is an impressive company. The owner and crew did a amazing job of painting my primary residence as well as my rental property. Bart, the owner, had great knowledge on the best paint colors to use for both the interior and exterior. His team did an fantastic job of preparing both properties for painting and cleaned up both properties so thoroughly, it was like they were never there. Being a former Realtor for 20+ years, I have and will continue to refer all my past clients to Soundview Painting LLC if they are in need of a painter to paint their homes. Scott"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.

Rags used with oil-based stains are highly flammable and can spontaneously combust in the right conditions. To reduce the fire risk, throw them in a metal container after use and add rocks on top to secure them. Add an inch of water and seal the container. Take the rags in the container to a hazardous waste factory as soon as possible.

If you have the time and the budget, we strongly recommend staining your fence, especially if it's looking a bit tired or hasn't been treated recently. While you may not see the same return on investment (ROI) as you would with a project like a kitchen remodel, staining a fence is one of the best ways to add a facelift to your property—a new fence stain adds serious curb appeal to your home.

If you want to achieve a deeper, darker stain color, wait 5 to 10 minutes before wiping it off. However, wipe it off faster for a lighter tone. When wiping off the stain during this part of the process, be sure to work in the direction of the wood’s grain for best results.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.
