"I called Speedy Septic July 13, 2017 to schedule pumping of my septic tank. The earliest available time was August 2 between 8 and 9 am. As that date approached, the weather was very hot and I offered to have them arrive as early as possible on the scheduled day. They arrived promptly at 7 am. It required a minimal amount of digging to uncover the septic tank. In addition to the pumping equipment, they used their own hose and water during the process, although they did ask for a hose or at least a water spigot. I did not have running water outside at the time, as I had advised when I made the appointment. The crew of two was polite and efficient and discussed with me their findings about my tank and drain field and provided recommendations for the future."

"I put in a request for septic tank pumping and the first contact (from other company) was crazy high. A Affordable Septic gave a quote that was extremely reasonable and they surely live up to the name. Marty came out this morning; on time or even a bit early. He was extremely kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend this company for anyone needing septic service. I pray God's Blessings on this company and its employees. John 3:16"

"Our existing septic tank was only a few years old, but the associated drainfield was failing and required replacement. Due to a small lot, our options were limited; but rather than a huge and unsightly bottomless sand filter, we opted for a less obtrusive (but expensive) treatment unit and pumps along with the needed replaced drainfield. Cory was very helpful in explaining complex options and costs."

"Ryan and his crew were amazing--We had a major and complicated sewer pipe replacement and they were timely, did great work, and were super easy to work with. I know we got a great deal, given the size and extent of the project. I'd highly recommend them to anyone. We were joking the other day when we walked by a big hole in the ground near someone's house, "They should have hired Superior Underground!" It's true though."

"We recently moved to Salem and have a water softener for the first time.  We needed to disconnect and clean out the brine tank and were unsure of what to do, despite reading the manual and how-to's online.  I found Shiloh Water Systems with 8 great reviews on Angie's List and gave them a call.  Mike answered the phone, spent a number of minutes patiently answering my questions and asking a few pertinent ones of his own.  When I asked if I should have him come out and look at our softener, he said, "No, you're doing great, you don't need me.  But give me another call if you have a problem."  Music to my ears!
Thanks to his guidance, we were able to replace a few small parts at a nearby hardware store, reconnect the brine tank to the softener, and knew exactly what to do to get it up and running again.
He'll definitely get our business should we need him in the future!

Small jobs welcome

"We had a toilet leak that needed immediate assistance. It was after hours, but Phil was able to come and fix it quickly. He was behind knowledgeable, properly diagnosed the problem and talked me through the solution. Would definitely recommend D&F, especially Phil."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

When a septic tank is full, it needs to be professionally pumped. The average cost of a one-time septic tank pump is about $400, or $0.30 per gallon. If your septic tank is full, you may notice that you have issues flushing your toilet, pipes are draining very slowly, or you have a sewage smell lingering in your home or yard.

Septic drain lines (or leach lines) are typically buried between 18 and 36 inches underground, and should be at least 6 inches below the surface. These pipes are perforated and surrounded by filtering materials like sand or gravel. Burying the lines at this depth helps minimize odors and allows bacteria and other biological processes in the soil to effectively treat the wastewater. Burying lines too close to the surface can cause issues unless the soil is very compact and stable.

Expect to take at least a day to drill your own well by hand. For a 500-foot well, this could take even longer, depending on the makeup of the soil and the terrain you are drilling through. Other factors include your physical strength and overall fitness level and the weather conditions you’re working in.

Depending on the size and location of your septic tank repair job, you may want to let the septic pros finish before tackling other backyard work. However, in some cases, it’s not a bad idea to coordinate between your providers if the timing’s right and your septic repair pro says it’s safe to do so. For instance, if the septic repair work is happening in the fall, you might want to take advantage of the opportunity to prepare your backyard landscaping for winter , or in spring, start mulching the garden beds.

The size of your septic tank plays a role in determining the proper size of the drain or leach field. As a general rule, you should have 1 square foot of drain field size per gallon of septic tank capacity. However, you could install a leach field that’s as much as 2.5 square feet per gallon of septic tank capacity. Most professionals determine the right septic tank size and drain field size by the number of bedrooms in the house. A three-bedroom house needs a minimum 1,000-gallon septic tank, for example.
