"Cornelio updated my irrigation system at 1/2 of the price of the other bids. Then he walked around with me, explaining and showing the improvements, updating my watering schedule on my phone AND will come back and do my back flow inspection. He left addition hoes, connectors and garden pins in case I want to add or move something. He was very transparent, courteous and knowledgeable. It was a great experience. I highly recommend 7 Brothers Landscaping and Irrigation!"

"Yury and his team at VIP Green Maintenance & Landscaping were very knowledgeable and highly capable. They did a fantastic job installing a new 9 zone sprinkler system for our new grass area and connecting our 5 existing drip lines to a new sophisticated wi-fi based irrigation system controller (16 zone system). Demetre showed us how to set up and run the system from our phones as well as from the unit itself. Everyone was courteous and friendly and seemed to really enjoyed their work. Hey kept us informed as the project progressed every step of the way. We highly recommend VIP Green Maintenance & Landscaping! Kiri & Ken Torre"

"Pablo and crew were fantastic. Vanguard irrigation was one of five bids that I received for my irrigation needs. The five bids I did receive ranged from you’ve got to be kidding me, to now we’re talking. Pablo was the only one that explained to me in detail what my project would entail. His crew was fantastic, punctual, friendly and very organized. I would not hesitate to recommend his services to anyone. Thank you Pablo and crew for a quality job."

"Oscar was very friendly and easy to work with. We reviewed four other estimates and picked Waterleaf based on Oscar’s easy going and confident manner, his references, and his price was in the general range of others. We had a few minor concerns during the project. Oscar always assured us with, “I’ll take care of that.” He always did. We are completely satisfied. The new lawn is beautiful, the path with pavers is a piece of art, and the sprinkler system is tuned to perfection. We are so pleased we are considering having him do more path work and taking over our landscape maintenance."

"Dream Landscape contacted me shortly after I found them on HomeAdvisor (Angi). They showed up when scheduled to talk about my landscape project. They promptly sent me an estimate. When they showed up to do the job they explained how the process would work. I especially appreciated that the person I met with, who prepared the estimate, managed the work crew. The clean up at the end of the job was impressive. I will definitely be using them for other projects."

"We had Blessing do a large project in our front yard that included 3 rock walls, 2 flagstone paths, a patio, slab-stone stairs, landscaping throughout, and irrigation. We then had them come in a year later to irrigate our entire backyard and landscape a side yard. Rebecca's creative-natural designs were spectacular. She provided fun, artistic ideas and helped to find plants that provided color throughout the year. The installers were extremely friendly, hard-working, and respectful of our space. During our most recent project, Juan and Ricardo's friendly smiles and great communication were impressive! We have been pleased with this company from start to finish!!"

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

The best grass type for shady areas depends on your region, your preferences, and your yard’s microclimate. Overall, the best cool-season grass for shade is ryegrass or tall fescue, while the best warm-season grass for shade is St. Augustine. But again, this can depend on what you’re looking for in the grass. The best grass for your shady yard might be one that looks good to you, one that tolerates high foot traffic, or grass with other characteristics that make it fit your lawn needs.

Too much clover in your lawn can indicate several issues with your soil. Clover can thrive in soils with abnormally high pH, low-cut grass, and low nitrogen. Amending these issues can push clover out for good.

Hardy perennial clover loves the low nitrogen and compact conditions that often come with poor, infertile soils. But other factors also contribute to a clover explosion, including drought conditions, cool temperatures, under fertilization, and over-irrigation. You’ll need to evaluate all these elements when planning to kill off the clover.

Both zoysia grass and bermuda grass are somewhat similar to St. Augustine because they’re all warm-season grasses. Beyond that, most grass types have unique properties that set them apart. Zoysia grass costs twice the price of St. Augustine grass on average and it has thinner blades and a deeper green appearance. Bermuda grass, compared to St. Augustine, has much thinner blades, is softer to the touch, and has a higher tolerance for colder weather.

Technically, yes, at least some of the grass seed you throw on the ground will germinate. If the area doesn’t have good drainage, rain or overwatering can move seeds before they have germinated, leaving your patches still patchy. What does grow won’t have strong roots if there isn’t proper aeration.

The time you should wait before walking on new grass depends on whether you used seed or sod. If you laid new grass seed, it's best to wait about eight weeks before stepping on it, as new grass is fragile. For sod, it typically establishes itself in the ground in about two weeks. For heavy traffic, like driving a car across a new grass driveway, you might need to wait an entire season.
