Customers say: True professional

"Homan Painting is a two-man operation. Jim and his brother gave us a reasonable bid and so we hired them. They were professional and reliable. They prepped the house by power washing and doing some scraping. They don't scrape old paint as much as other companies I have seen a worked with. Instead they scrape some and then use a product that adheres to the old paint and walls and is supposed to keep the new paint from flaking off. Fingers crossed this will work. It took about 10 days from start to finish. They did a good job and were pleasant to work with."

"The company is wonderful. I used them some 20 years earlier, and wouldn't dream of using another company now. This time, as before, they were professional, courteous, extrememely hard-working, and terrifically efficient. They were easy to contact, and answered all my questions immediately. The job is beautifully done. Samantha, the owner, and Ben (the lead person on dry rot repair prior to painting) were absolutely great. Submitted by Roger Porter ([email protected]) Summer, 2021."

"Eduardo and his team were amazing. I hired them to tackle my son's bedroom, which was left to us by the previous home owners in a state of paint peeling over paint over wallpaper. Eduardo came by to provide an estimate and detailed the approach he would take to make the project successful. And what a beast of a project it was; scrapping, treating, patching, priming, and painting. It was also the little things too, like the crew wearing masks to taking off their shoes when they entered are home to rehanging the curtain rod and moving furniture that I had moved prior to their arrival; they were respectful of our home 100% of the time. I highly recommend LGD Professional Painting. Thank you Eduardo and team!"

"We hired this company for exterior painting and couldn?t be happier with the results. From the very beginning, communication was clear and professional. They showed up on time, protected all surrounding areas carefully, and paid attention to every detail. The surface preparation was done properly, and the final paint finish looks smooth, clean, and high-quality. The crew worked efficiently and kept the job site organized throughout the project. The house looks brand new again! I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for reliable and professional exterior painting services."

"I had my garage painted, including the refinishing of the floor with epoxy. David and his team did a beautiful job and left it clean and sparkling. They also painted the entire interior of my home when I moved in last summer. They are always on time and call me every night to let me know when they'll be there the next morning. I ordered shelves for the garage and they installed them at no extra charge. I only wish I had more for them to do. I wouldn't call anyone else for painting. Very reasonably priced and high quality, detailed work. David won't leave until it's perfect and will add finishing touches to make it so. I'm very happy!"

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

You don’t necessarily have to remove all the old paint before repainting your deck, but it’s best to remove as much as possible to ensure a smooth and long-lasting finish. Prioritize scraping off loose, peeling, or flaking paint, and sand down rough areas to create a smooth surface for the new paint to bond with.

Yes, you can paint over old exterior paint, but success depends on the condition of the existing paint and proper surface preparation. If the previous coating is in good shape (not cracked, peeling, or flaky), you can paint over it with less prep work. However, for the most durable and professional-looking results, follow these key preparation steps:

  • Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the exterior to remove all dirt, grime, and mildew. A pressure washer can be very effective for this.

  • Scrape and Sand: If the old paint is peeling, cracked, or flaky, you must scrape off all loose paint. After scraping, sand the surface to create a smooth, even base for the new paint. Sanding is especially important for wood siding.

  • Apply Primer: Using a quality exterior primer is highly recommended. It ensures the new paint adheres properly, improves durability, and provides a uniform finish. If you are painting a lighter color over a dark one, a tinted primer will help cover the old color more effectively.

Some brands offer paint-and-primer-in-one products for convenience. Taking the time to prepare the surface properly will not only increase your home's curb appeal but also help protect your siding and extend its life.

Yes, you can technically use a pressure washer to remove paint from brick, but it comes with a significant risk of damaging the brick surface. A high-power pressure washer can be fast but may leave the brick looking unsightly. The recommended method is to first apply a chemical paint stripper, following the product's instructions, and then use a stiff metal bristle brush or a pressure washer on a low-pressure setting to remove the loosened paint. Due to the risk of damage, it is often best to hire a professional who can use low-stress methods.

DIY is possible with strippers or sanding, but professional services ensure efficiency and prevent surface damage.

It’s best to use a slightly slower-working paint remover that is safer to use, such as mineral spirits, because the strongest spray paint removers are often also the most toxic. Many of these products contain dangerous chemicals, such as methylene chloride, which the EPA banned for most uses in April 2024 after it was established as a major carcinogen.
