We had such a positive experience with the roof, when it came time to do our windows and doors, they won our business. They even repaired an issue from our siding vendor as that company stop responding immediately after installation. Craftsman Choice, to this day. responds. There are very few roofing, window, door, and siding folks that will respond once they are paid, but Craftsman Choice continues to respond. I also have to speak highly about the salesperson, the project managers, and the craftsman that we experienced over this time frame. All performed highly, were great to work with, accommodating, knowledgeable, and made the projects easy. Sales was upfront, transparent, patient, and honest. Project managers were responsive, gave the bad news fast if there was any, and worked with us to get the job done to our satisfaction. The craftsman working for Craftsman Choice are all true craftsmen; and I do not use that term lightly. They have been there, done that, and that experience shown through thoroughly in each job performed. There will always be issues, but how Craftsman Choice chooses to deal with the issues makes them stand out. I have referred them to many coworkers and friends and have had no regrets in making a recommendation. I am not an employee; I do not own stock in Craftsman Choice, but the reason I write this is when someone performs poorly, I speak up. And, when someone does a good job, I like to make it known. - Capital Siding Windows & RoofingWhen we got hit with the hail storm last summer on the east side of St Paul, we received damage to our roof, gutters, etc. The insurance company sent an adjuster that approved about 25 percent of the damage. Add to this most roofing companies were very busy and weren’t really interested in a small roof like ours. We contacted Capitol Siding and Windows and they were instrumental in us getting what we should have received in the first place. They came out and inspected everything, took a lot of pictures and helped us contact the insurance company to meet an adjuster and straighten out our claim. The claim was fully approved, and our new roof looks great! "We used Spotless and Seamless Exteriors to reside our detached garage (using vinyl siding). Our experience started with a home visit and quote from Max. He was very thorough in looking over our garage and took the time to answer all of our questions. After getting us the quote, we had a few more follow-up questions and he was very helpful and quick to respond. Our work started about five weeks after we got the quote, which was in line with the timing estimates we received from other companies. When installation day arrived, the crew got the entire project done in one day (we were expecting two or more). They did a beautiful job, were respectful, and cleaned up completely after the job is done. Max came back to check on the work a couple days later. We told him that we were very happy, but wished that the crew had not thrown out the boxes and instructions for the floodlights they installed (we were having issues with them). Max said he would hunt down the boxes and, true to his word, he returned them a couple days later. "I will call this “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly review” as I am breaking this review into the 3 teams that we had – 2 very good and done quickly and 1 inferior with the most time spent at our house – thus the overall 3 star grade. The Good • Roofing Team – Grade: A. Efficient, good job, found virtually no nails or roofing materials on the ground • Gutters – Grade: A. One man crew but he knew what he was doing and provided good suggestions for modifying our water flow. The Bad • Siding & Window Team – Grade: C to D. Not sure how they were trained but they didn’t seem to understand some common construction basics. A few of the many examples – o They nailed the siding on wrong and had to start over. o They almost ripped the 120V electrical outlet off the house without turning off the breaker but it was the weekend and we happened to be in the garden and saw them. o Installed the dryer vent wrong twice – once painting it shut and the next time putting on a vent with a label on it saying “not for use with clothes dryers” due to the pre-installed screen. The Ugly • Siding & Window Team – Used caulk as touch up paint on LP Smartside (or just used the siding to clean off their dirty fingers?) – leaving random “chicken pox marks” all over new siding. Garage, driveway and all 4 sides of our house were filled with equipment and garbage for the length of the project. Not the crew to have if you have children or pets – they left old saw blades and other sharp objects around the garage entrance and the house. I didn’t expect a spotless home every night but I didn’t expect to be living with this much disarray with minimal clean up each night, even after asking the supervisor to improve pickup of at least garbage and sharp objects in the garage and the common walking paths. Nor did we expect to be spending our fall cleaning caulk off the “maintenance free” siding and re-painting it and installing our outside boxes correctly. I will give the owner credit for realizing that his siding and window crew did inferior work and giving us a discount on our bill. None-the-less, I am rating the services provided based on the quality of the work done.

"I have hired Midwest Solar on 3 different occasions now and they are great! "I contacted them on Friday, 2/11, and told them that we had some severe ice dam problems, and they said that they could be out first thing Saturday morning. They arrived at my house a little before 8:00 am, as promised, and started working. The ice dams on my house were between 12-24" thick. They started working in the front, where they were the worst. They worked until about 5 PM, and got the front finished. They were having equipment problems, and they could not get to the back. They said they would take the machine in on Sunday morning, and that they would be back on Sunday afternoon to finish. They called on Sunday afternoon, and said that they had to have the machine completely rebuilt, and that they could not be back until Monday. They arrived about 10 am on Monday, and the machine worked much better. They finished the back up by about 2 pm on Monday. The only complaint I had was the price (even though it was discounted) I felt should have been a little bit less, because the time they worked on the back (about 2-4 times the ice as the front) showed how slow it was going on the front. But overall, I was very happy with the work.

"Similar to another review on this site, I had several windows replaced with Fibertec windows. The seals were defective on two casement windows. By the time we reported the problem to Above and Beyond, they had severed their relationship with Fibertec. That meant that we needed to pay the freight to ship the replacement glass from Ontario Canada to our house, which is quite a chunk of money. If we were to get the glass to our house, Above and Beyond would install the replacement at their cost. We appreciate that they are willing to do that. Our problem is with the manufacturer and not with Above and Beyond. They did a fine job installing our replacement windows. It is not their fault that the manufacturer provided defective windows.

"It went great. Originally I had them install gutters. They did a great job and everything went exactly as planned. I needed new windows and the result was the same. "There was a rain storm that had some wind that blew off some shingles causing two rooms in the house to have water leaking in when it rained, the rain was forecasted to go on for for weeks. I called the contractor who I had used a few years before for storm damage to siding, he never even called me back. I called several other contractors, no one even returned my phone calls even though in my messages I stated that I had currently water coming in and it was an emergency. After 16 days of trying contractors and waiting for return calls, Corey was the first contractor to return my call and he was out to look at my roof in a day or two! I did get one other contractor who called me back just after Corey but he couldn't get out to look at my roof until after Corey could so I went with Corey. Corey came back a day or two after the initial look see to put a tarp on where it was leaking to stave off more water damage until he could come back and do the repairs because more rain was coming. It was just more than a week after that until he came back to start work. He got one part done then it rained and he couldn't work, so a week later he got the other part done. I thought the pricing was good and he returned every phone call I made to him. He seemed very knowledgeable about his craft and I felt very confident in his work. One part of our roof is a nearly flat section that needed some interesting fixes to keep the shingles from degrading from the elements so quickly again and his solution was very professional. My only complaints were that there quite a lot of nails left over on one part the roof that my husband went out and picked up so they didn't get washed down onto the ground, and that I did not get a written estimate despite asking a couple of times nor did I get an invoice/receipt that showed the breakdown of materials and labor and so forth, so that's where the B comes from for professionalism. The B for punctuality comes from not having gotten to the job for just more than a week after putting the tarp on, at the initial meeting it had sounded like he was going to come out the following Monday but it was a week after that, but I think because of the rain the job he was working on before he got my call took longer for him to complete so it may not have been his fault. In all, though, I would recommend Atreas and plan to hire Corey again as soon as I have cash to replace the whole rest of the roof as well as some other projects.
