"I ended up NOT utilizing any aspects of the purchased Deal at all. The American Home Contractors representative indicated that I should request a refund from Angie's List on the original Deal. I contacted AHC for an appointment in mid-August, but they could not see me until September 21st, which was later than desired. The AHC rep did view the work required and provided an estimate ($2,950), but did not perform any real work. The actual gutter removal/replacement and repair was apparently performed by a subcontractor crew which came the following day. The work done by the subcontractor was satisfactory and the crew of two was professional. But the battery on their truck died and I had to give them a jump start; they nearly forgot a small generator they used before they left; and they left a pair of tin snips in the grass which I fortunately found before I mowed the lawn. The AHC estimator warned me the price would probably be higher than I expected; it was, but I really don't have any standard of comparison - most of the work I have done by home repair folks ends up costing more than I expected/wanted. However, I was IRRITATED by a $250.00 "Maryland Service Charge" noted on the final invoice. I called the AHC office and was told that "they add this charge on all of their contracts". This Service Charge just seems to be a way to pad their bills, and I was disappointed that by this rather obvious ploy. However, I was writing this message mainly to see if Angie's List would refund my $125.00 Deal purchase since it was not used."
