"Kamran dd a fantastic job. He reached out to me quickly and had his associate come by to look at the walls I was removing. I received an estimate for the work. Kamran worked extra long on the project to help me utilize the beams that I had pre purchased. I would recommend anyone who need a professional engineer recommendation to use OHI engineering"

"Structural Engineer to Inspect stage and tents at an outdoor event He was terrific. He was there the very next morning before the event started. He was super friendly and very complete from beginning to end. The only thing is the price was more expensive than I thought it would be, so I would recommend comparing pricing if you have time."

"1) I had signed a contract with a brick/masonry company on September 10, 2019, to construct a full brick veneer on the front of my house. The crew worked one day, October 14, 2019, then nothing! Sometime after that, the firm concluded my project required a building permit approved by Loudoun County, VA. I signed a blank building permit form in November. 2) Doug was hired by the firm to conduct a structural engineers analysis of my house and to prepare drawings and written guidance for the construction of the brick veneer wall, for review by the Loudoun County building permit office. 3) Doug came on November 11, 2019, to survey my house. He was on time, efficient and courteous. He knew exactly how to plan and execute his assignment. He did not waste his or my time. Yet he did take the time to answer all of my questions. 4) He minimized demolition needed to analyze the structure by cutting a piece of drywall from the garage (vs the living space) 5) He submitted his work deliverable to the brick/masonry firm ahead of his contract schedule. 6) On a couple of occasions since his November 11, 2019 appointment, he has contacted me to check on the progress of the project. (Work resumed in January 2020.) I believe he genuinely cares that my project is completed properly and to my satisfaction."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Silver Spring, quality structural engineering work shows through completed inspections, stamped plans, and use of materials suited to local soil and climate. Look for precise workmanship, effective drainage solutions, and seamless integration with your home’s structure. A third-party inspection and attention to details like corrosion-resistant fasteners and proper waterproofing further indicate the work meets high standards for structural integrity.

Helpful?

The longevity of structural engineering in Silver Spring depends on addressing clay soil movement, using moisture-resistant materials, and ensuring effective drainage around the foundation. Adapting to the area’s freeze-thaw cycles and humidity is crucial. Success also relies on following local building codes, using rust-resistant connectors, and hiring professionals experienced with Silver Spring’s housing stock and climate challenges, all of which help preserve your home’s structural integrity.

Helpful?

For homes in Silver Spring, keep a dehumidifier, waterproof sealant, and mold prevention products to manage basement moisture. Inspection tools like a flashlight, level, and moisture meter help spot early signs of structural issues. Stock hydraulic cement for minor cracks, gutter cleaning tools, and weatherstripping. Having emergency support posts and heavy-duty plastic sheeting prepares you for unexpected repairs or seasonal maintenance needs.

Helpful?

Completing structural engineering projects in Silver Spring enhances your home’s comfort and value by improving moisture control, reducing drafts, and increasing usable living space—especially in basements. These upgrades help prevent mold, boost insulation, and support future renovations. With improved structural integrity, you’ll enjoy greater peace of mind, long-term energy savings, and a more appealing home in Silver Spring’s competitive housing market.

Helpful?

After completing structural engineering work in Silver Spring, keep all building permits, stamped engineering drawings, inspection sign-offs, and material warranties. Also save before-and-after photos, payment receipts, soil or foundation reports, and any approvals from your HOA or historic district. These records are essential for future renovations, insurance claims, or property sales, and help demonstrate compliance with Silver Spring’s local building requirements.
