"Tess was extremely responsive! He quickly diagnosed my pinhole leaks and repaired them. He had to use a little ingenuity in order to make the repairs, as my pipes lay against a wood ceiling strut. He also located another plumbing issue that I may need to keep my eye on. I would definitely hire him again!"

"I would recommend Remedy P&D to anyone needing a plumber. They were fast to respond and schedule an appointment for a free estimate. The plumber arrived on time and was dressed in a professional company uniform. The plumber also recommended a quick cost saving option for fixing my upstairs bathroom drain. Instead of trying to make a quick buck by over charging me on a simple fix he advised me to save the cost and do his recommendation."

"I just need to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Star Plumbing because you went above and beyond to get my valve replaced and to ensure I was completely satisfied with the project. The technician arrived at my home at the appointed time (earlier as a matter of fact) just as he had promised. When the he arrived at my door; he greeted me with a smile and his name. He was courteous, professional and very knowledgeable. And the project was finished in record time! I too would like others to know; this is a company you can trust to get the job done."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

In Silver Spring, homeowners are embracing plumbing upgrades that suit the area’s older homes and diverse architecture. Popular trends include touchless faucets for kitchens, recirculating hot water systems to reduce wait times in multi-story homes, and water-saving fixtures tailored for the region’s conservation efforts. Many residents are also opting for basement waterproofing solutions and spa-style bathrooms, especially in neighborhoods with historic properties and variable soil conditions.

Helpful?

In Silver Spring, unexpected costs can arise from discovering lead or galvanized pipes during renovations, which often require full replacement. Tree roots infiltrating sewer lines are common in established neighborhoods, sometimes leading to extensive repairs. Additional expenses may include soil stabilization in areas with shifting ground, permit and inspection fees, or waterproofing older basements that weren’t originally designed for today’s moisture standards. Weather-related delays can also affect project timelines.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Silver Spring should account for the area’s clay-heavy soil, which can shift and stress underground lines, especially after heavy rains. Proximity to Rock Creek and local floodplains may require enhanced drainage or backflow prevention. Seasonal temperature swings can impact project timing, while older neighborhoods often have shared or aging water mains. Always check with local utilities before starting major plumbing work to avoid service disruptions.

Helpful?

In Silver Spring, frequent leaks in crawl spaces, persistent musty odors in basements, and uneven water pressure in split-level homes can signal outdated or faulty plumbing. Stains on ceilings, slow-draining fixtures, or visible corrosion on exposed pipes—especially in homes built before the 1970s—are red flags. If you notice patchwork repairs or mismatched piping, it’s wise to have a local plumbing professional inspect the system.

Helpful?

Upgrading plumbing in Silver Spring often enhances resale appeal, particularly in neighborhoods with older infrastructure. Modernizing bathrooms, adding energy-efficient plumbing fixtures, or installing a sump pump can reassure buyers concerned about water intrusion or aging pipes. Many buyers in this area look for recent plumbing upgrades, especially in homes near Sligo Creek or with finished basements, making these improvements a strong selling point.
