"From start to finish, WE Griffin Roofing did outstanding work. An important aspect as that they are both a roofing company as well as a gutter company, and in our case both sets of expertise were needed. We obtained three bids, and decided to choose WE Griffin because Matt Hoffman gave us such an insightful analysis and estimate of the work needed. We had purchased this house (a 1962 split level) last year, and the gutters were literally falling off their fascia boards and also the fascia boards were coming apart as well. Mr. Hoffman diagnosed that potentially extensive roof repair would also be required, including both the rafter tails as well as the sheeting under the shingles near the edges, and including that work in his estimate along with the gutter and trim replacement. His estimate of the work needed turned out to be very accurate as many of the rafter ends and a whole section of sheeting on the back side were rotted and needed repair/replacement. The crew was similarly excellent; they arrived on site as scheduled and worked tirelessly for nearly 4 days to do all the repair work, replace all the fascia boards, replace some of the missing cladding that had also come off in places, and install a complete set of new gutters. Each day when the crew left they tidied up the site very nicely, and at the end of the project the yard was completely clean. They worked very carefully with a lot of attention to detail. The outcome is that we now have gutters as well as fascia boards and cladding that all look spectacular! We are very pleased with their work."

"We bought our house in 2012 in Montgomery County, MD. The roof was past its design life when we bought the place, and although there were no signs of leaks, we decided to put a new roof on the house in 2016 - better to get it done before problems arise than after. Central was great. I forgot to move my car out of the driveway the morning they were scheduled to start work but they managed to make things work anyway. My handyman happened to stop by while they were working and told me it looked like they knew what they were doing, which was comforting. The real proof, though, is my roof has been on the house for 4 years, including the wettest year on record here in the DC area, with no signs of leaks anywhere in the house. This may not seem impressive - roofs aren't supposed to leak. However, both my sister and parents have had new roofs put on their houses in the intervening years - they live several States away so could not use Central Exteriors. Both had leak issues after having the new roofs put on and had to have the roofer come back out to fix things - in my sister's case it took several return visits and some major work to make things right. Central Exteriors were price competitive with other roofing companies I consulted with, and gave me a 50 year warranty on the shingles and workmanship, which nobody else offered. I would not hesitate to hire them again. Very pleased."

"Sunny Lee and his firm are excellent. He is easy to work with, and his price is competitive and reasonable. He came promptly to look at our leaking roof, and covered it with tarp at our request. The roof was replaced in a day. We also appreciated his honesty that the gutter didn't need to be replaced yet. We are very pleased with his work, and will not hesitate to use his company again in the future. We will also recommend him to friends and neighbors."

"I used Unicorp to replace my roof and siding and the entire experience was hassle-free. Brian came to my house on a weekend to assess my needs & provide a quote. I was assigned a team at Unicorp. Every single member of that team (Megan, JR, and Brian) were always available and courteous. In addition to courteous interactions, the work on my house was flawless. I am so happy with the new roof, shutters, & siding. Everyone in my neighborhood could tell during installation that this company was professional & once the work was completed many of my neighbors said I have the nicest house in the neighborhood. After installation another company damaged my newly installed siding. Unicorp responded immediately and the repairs were made - again hassle-fee. I wish I had known about Unicorp years ago when I replaced my windows. This is THE COMPANY to use for roofing, siding, windows. QUALITY PRODUCTS PROPERLY INSTALLED BY THE MOST PROFESSIONAL STAFF."

"Outstanding! ROOF, TRIM, GUTTERS, and ATTIC! We had a wonderful experience all around with Power. All the crews came on their scheduled dates and times. From start to finish everyone was very professional, polite, and diligent in their work. All the teamwork on this large (to us!) project was simply amazing. I have no idea what this type of work entails but I do know a "well-oiled machine" when I see one. Our roof, trim, gutters and attic look stunning and my husband and I are extremely pleased with the outcome. Thank you so much to these folks and their crews: Pedro’s Team - Roof and decking Jose’s Team - Trim/siding Soonha’s Team - Gutters David’s Team - Attic I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention Jensen and Phil in Customer Development; Zach, the Remodeling Consultant; Brandon, the Pre-Install Inspector; Josh, the Overall Project Manager; Steve, another kind Project Manager who pitched in to help answer a question for us; and Erin, our Quality Assurance Manager. Tying all this together are the very kind and responsive folks at the main office in Elkridge: Brooke,
Sarah, and their team of Customer Service Professionals. Power Home Remodeling surely knows how to hire quality employees to produce quality work! Thank you all and God bless."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

While you don’t have to let roofers inside your home, it is proper etiquette to offer the use of your restrooms. And if it’s a hot day, it’s polite to invite the roofers into your house to cool off and have a chilled drink.

When it comes to choosing the best roof color for a blue exterior, you have plenty of options. For a classic neutral look, go with a light gray, dark gray, or black roof. Blend gray tones if you want a more eye-catching look for your roof, or go for a different splash of color with a green or even red. Take inspiration from your neighbors if you want your house to fit in on the block.

Building code allows 24-inch on-center spacing for roof trusses. However, you can install them on 12- or 16-inch centers to handle large loads or other exceptional circumstances. In cases such as covering a wide span or supporting alternative roofing materials, where a structural engineer needs to evaluate or create a design for your trusses, the plans will indicate the spacing.

No, a chimney crown is not the same as a chimney cap. A chimney crown is a flat cement area on top of a masonry chimney. It starts where the masonry part of the chimney ends at the very top and domes upward toward the flue opening. A chimney cap sits on top of the crown over the flue. It is usually made of metal and allows smoke to escape without letting in rainwater.

Whether you should choose a flat roof or a sloped roof depends on your particular situation. Flat roofs tend to be less expensive to install. However, sloped roofs have longer lifespans and stand up better to heavy snow and other inclement weather.

Keep in mind that even a flat roof needs to have a slight slope, usually around 1/2 inch for every foot. If it is completely flat, water will pool and cause damage, either from weight or leakage or rot.
