"We got five different work proposals for our HVAC replacement. The person who came to our house was very technically knowledgable. He gave us his cell phone number and gave us plenty of his time answering our questions. I think this contractor would have done an excellent job at a good price."

"I had a great experience with McCarthy. They entertained the other offers I had for HVAC replacement, agreed to what felt like a very fair price and did a great job the next day doing the replacement. I'd highly recommend them to anyone for HVAC work."

Customers say: True professional

"Excellent service from Hecomo. Technician did not try to push purchase of a new HVAC system even though there were major issues with our system, feel comfortable while talking with an advisor. Very knowledgeable, patiently, friendly and nice person, answer all my questions. Later on, we decided to replace the whole new system with fair price and wasn’t ripped off as others. Very professional and well trained technician. I will definitely use them again."

"I got four estimates before choosing Michael Bonsby. They were the only HVAC contractor to actually measure my house and recommended a system based on those measurements, which turned out to be a smaller and more affordable unit than my existing system. The other three just assumed the existing system was properly sized and proposed replacing it."

Small jobs welcome

"Outstanding service and work. Very happy I chose them. I had an air handler/HVAC unit that was old and dirty. They came in, took it apart, cleaned/sprayed/lubricated the unit, put it back together, and it works so much better. Thank you!"

"Purchased the Angie's deal coupon for $250 for full HVAC cleaning and all vents and returns.  During cleaning they found some black mold and recommended deep cleaning for additional $250.  They showed us pics of where the mold and other dirty stuff was and we decided to have them clean it since I doubt duct cleaning was ever performed for this house.  We were satisfied with the result.  The cleaner was prompt and explained everything in detail.  We were satisfied with the service.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Turn your system off when you're toasty or when you're out to prevent unnecessary wear. Using the timer on your thermostat so that it switches off when it reaches a certain temperature or turns on just before you get back from work is best. An annual maintenance contract can be helpful to ensure your system receives these important services at regular intervals.

Swamp coolers cost approximately 50 percent less to install than central air conditioners and cost less to run. Operation costs depend on the size of the unit and home, your climate, utility rates in your area, and the system’s efficiency. Swamp coolers use 15 to 35 percent less power than air conditioners.

NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification is not legally required for HVAC technicians in most areas, but hiring a professional with this certification is highly recommended. NATE-certified technicians demonstrated their expertise and proficiency in different types of HVAC systems, offering assurance of quality service. It's a voluntary certification, yet it indicates a commitment to professionalism and ongoing training. Choosing a NATE-certified technician often means you're working with someone who is up-to-date on industry standards and best practices, which can lead to better service, energy efficiency, and long-term cost savings.

If there’s a freon leak in your home’s AC unit, it will cause the system to work overtime to cool the house. That issue will result in higher energy bills and it will take much longer for cool air to disperse throughout the home. If your system has a freon leak during the summer, it can make hot days miserable. That’s why it’s important to hire an HVAC professional to resolve a freon leak as quickly as possible.

While personal preferences widely vary, sleep experts say the best temperature for sleeping is between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit rather than 78. If you do choose to sleep with your AC unit tuned to 78 degrees, you might want to use only a sheet or light blanket rather than a comforter. You might also consider installing a window unit in your bedroom so that you can be cooler in bed without wasting energy cooling the whole house.
