"Kevin arrived today for the Spring Preventive Maintenance service on our HVAC system that we purchased a few years ago from Holtzople Heating & Air Conditioning. As always, we received an email and a phone call to let us know when the HVAC technician would be arriving. The Holtzople HVAC technicians are always very professional, clean, thorough, and polite and friendly. They are always willing to answer any questions we have, and their expertise and experience are evident in the excellent service they provide."

"I contacted Sean to repair my aging HVAC system. Although I have very little knowledge of HVAC, Sean was able to identify, explain, and plan the maintenance of my current system in language I understood and that seemed reasonable. Sean was very responsive via text during our scheduling and I'm happy with the expert level of detail he showed during inspection. I would highly recommend working with him or his team. Update: Sean came back out to resolve my filtration issues and also fixed some other problems that he noticed in the process without increasing the negotiated price. Again, Iâ m extremely satisfied with the work heâ s done and would recommend him for your HVAC needs."

"I had a great experience with McCarthy. They entertained the other offers I had for HVAC replacement, agreed to what felt like a very fair price and did a great job the next day doing the replacement. I'd highly recommend them to anyone for HVAC work."

"We got five different work proposals for our HVAC replacement. The person who came to our house was very technically knowledgable. He gave us his cell phone number and gave us plenty of his time answering our questions. I think this contractor would have done an excellent job at a good price."

"Everything went great. My AC died and it was close to 20 years old so I wanted the whole unit replaced. I have 4 young kids so no AC in the summer was not a pleasant option. The owner came out on site the day we called and was able to have the new unit installed the next day. I have dealt with many HVAC companies in the past as an Insurance Adjuster. These guys exceeded my expectations and were very reasonable on price. I highly recommend using Buric Heating and Air Conditioning!"

"I had a gas leak issue and it was later identified that leak was on the outside of my house and Washington gas company fixed it. In the meantime I had approached Michael Bonsby to come and check if there are any issues inside my house. The contractor showed up and said that there is no issue with the HVAC and the pipes that are connected to the HVAC. He was suggesting that if there is a leak in the pipes that are inside the drywall, I have to contact a plumber. I wish the contracting company advised me that I may need a plumber in case the leak is in the pipes inside the drywall."

"The purchase of the replacement HVAC system is a journey and a big investment. Similar to buying a car, both are costly and offer long term enjoyments. Though, thatâ s where the similarities end. The process and the implication of the HVAC system are much more than purchasing a vehicle, especially without the consumer-oriented resources to provide clarity. That is, cars are made in the factory to standard specifications and fully assembled. With the product being constant, the sales in a car dealership help consumers by mapping their needs to the most suited option packages. Other than that, the procurement process makes practically no difference in the ownership experience. Furthermore, there are many online resources to compare the content and pricing to aid consumer research. HVAC purchasing is a journey that makes car buying like a piece of cake. Sure, consumer brochures are available from the equipment vendors and the individual HVAC units are pre-assembled in the factory, but the units need to be matched/integrated and installed carefully by the professionals. Much like cooking, good ingredients do not guarantee a tasty dish. That means the quality of the overall product of equipment combined with installation may not be a constant between contractors. Furthermore, price haggling may have undesirable implications otherwise. Bill is neither like a sales person trying to sell the products with the highest margin nor like a technician who comes to do the job while putting the least effort to collect a signature. Bill from Air Distributor, acts more like a guide with his industry experience. Bill made suggestions based on the available systems in the market as well as recommended the best sizing and installation method. He even made an effort to balance the systems with damper and additional register for comfort. What makes Bill extraordinary and prompted my urge to write this review is his stubbornness towards paying attention to detail. Observing from his behind, Bill has a methodical way of approaching systems installation. Regardless of my pre-existing issues with duct works, PVC plumbing or outdoor unit support brackets, Bill spent additional time and effort to ensure that the job is done right and up to his high-quality standard. His work is simply clean and beautiful. When was the last time your hired contractor apologized to you for staying longer than their scheduled time slot and tell you that they just want to make sure that they can be proud of the work delivered?"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

While most air conditioners can last between 10 and 20 years, they will only last this long (or longer) if properly taken care of. Routine maintenance and inspections help keep your AC unit running in tip-top shape but understanding what factors will decrease its lifespan will also help keep your unit running cool.

Some things that shorten your AC’s lifespan include:

  • Extreme outdoor conditions, like high humidity or extensive salt spray

  • Improper installation

  • Extended run times, either by the unit being too small or the thermostat setting too low

  • Not performing required maintenance

The best way to save money on HVAC repairs is by regularly having your system inspected and maintained. This can prevent bigger problems and costly repairs and replacements in the future. It’s also smart to buy quality equipment and hire companies that provide warranties on equipment and labor. If you need repairs, you may be able to save money by cashing in on rebates and incentives or keeping the area around your HVAC unit clear to shorten the time your contractor needs to spend in your home.

You may be able to clean mold from your air conditioner in some cases. If the mold growth only takes up a small area, you can use either vinegar or bleach mixed with water to remove it. Larger areas of mold should be left to the professionals, though. It's also a good idea to leave mold removal to the pros if you are sensitive to mold or have asthma.

No, it isn’t necessarily bad to turn your AC on and off frequently—contrary to popular belief. Even if you stop and start your AC throughout the day, it won’t use as much energy as it would if you ran it nonstop.

If you’re concerned about your power consumption and energy costs, there are a few simple ways to use your AC more efficiently. Regularly cleaning the filters, scheduling routine maintenance, and using a programmable thermostat are all great choices.

While personal preferences widely vary, sleep experts say the best temperature for sleeping is between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit rather than 78. If you do choose to sleep with your AC unit tuned to 78 degrees, you might want to use only a sheet or light blanket rather than a comforter. You might also consider installing a window unit in your bedroom so that you can be cooler in bed without wasting energy cooling the whole house.
