"We’ve had Clear Water Concepts for decades and always had great service. Matt, the owner, retired and passed the baton to his son-in-law who is very helpful and friendly. This week, we had our annual maintenance done by Tech Troy Greenwood. He arrived on time and got everything checked out and changed our filters quickly. I would recommend Clear Concepts and Troy Greenwood."

"I would definitely recommend Mountain Fresh Water Systems to others.
Glenn was a pleasure to deal with, he called me personally multiple times to get the details set up and provided me with product literature to make sure the choice I made fit our needs perfectly.
The installation went off without a hitch (the installer was punctual and polite) and our new water softener is in perfect working order.

"Service went great! They arrived on time and completed the task in a timely manner. Not only did they change the RO filters, but they looked over our water softener system and gave us some tips to keep it running in top notch condition as well. We will definitely call them the next time our filters need to be changed and if our water softener needs service!"

"After flushing the toilet, my sewer backed up into the shower. I called Thornton Plumbing from the Angie's List magazine. Kris arrived promptly. He unclogged the main line explaining to me exactly what he was doing and why he was accessing it from the roof. I had a similar problem 5 years previously, but the rotor rooter person who came was not that thorough or neat. Kris explained to me how the plumbing was probably installed under the house. Kris impressed me with his thoroughness so I asked him questions about my tankless water heater. Kris said it should be cleaned at least once or twice a year. It was installed two years ago and I had never had it cleaned so Kris said he could do it on this visit. Once again he did an excellent job, explaining to me what he was doing, and what I could do to make the job easier the next time. Two weeks later, my sink next to the toilet plugged up. I called Thornton Plumbing again and they said they would send Kris between 2-4 PM that day. However, Kris was detained on other jobs and never arrived. Brent called me about 4:30 PM and explained Kris was detained. Brent said he was at the office and he was willing to come out and fix the problem, but it would take him about an hour to arrive. I had taken the day off work so I could be at home when they arrived, so I asked Brent to come out. Brent did not arrive until 7 PM, two hours later. We were both tired by that time. The work they did was always very professional. I did feel that the second problem should probably have been solved on the first visit. Brent said he would not charge me for the extra service trip. I will call them again, but I will ask them to be sure and let me know if there is any chance they won't be able to make the scheduled time. I have to take off work to be home for repair people, and it was upsetting when Brent did not arrive until 7 PM."

"Steve was very fair on his price and professional. My only suggestion would be to a little more care not to leave a mess in the work area, I left a tarp on the ground for him to work on and I noticed he got quite a bit of blue pipe glue on the cement surrounding my holding tank."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Yes. To get soft water, you can install a water softening system, which will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with sodium or potassium ions. Water softeners cost anywhere from $200 to $6,000, depending on the size and complexity of the system. You can either install a water softener for the whole house or just at your shower heads. If you’re sensitive to sodium or potassium, you can install a salt-free water conditioner.

A water softener is a worthwhile investment if you live in an area with hard water. While hard water is safe to drink, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can cause significant problems over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, reducing water flow and eventually corroding the plumbing system, which can lead to leaks and a shortened lifespan. Hard water also damages fixtures and appliances, potentially resulting in costly repairs. Additionally, it makes soaps and detergents less effective, meaning you'll use more product to get things clean. By installing a water softener, you can prevent these issues. The initial investment is often recouped through long-term savings, including lower energy bills, reduced appliance and plumbing maintenance, and spending less on soap and cleaning supplies. Other benefits include cleaner linens, dishes, and clothing, as well as softer water that is gentler on your skin and hair. In some areas, a water softener can also increase your home's value, making it a valuable long-term investment.

You can decide whether you need a water softener or water filter based on how your bathing or laundry experience is. If you notice issues like limescale buildup, dry skin, or stains on dishes—all telltale signs of hard water—you'd likely benefit from a water softener. However, if your main concern is over chemicals or bacteria in your tap water filter, and not just comfort, a filter is a better option.

Hard water isn’t necessarily bad for you. In some ways, it’s good for you. If you’re deficient in magnesium or calcium, hard water can give you a mineral boost that you wouldn’t get with soft water. However, this is where the benefits of hard water pretty much stop. Hard water can cause many minor inconveniences and lead to costly, premature replacements of your water-using appliances.

Experts recommend that you put two to four bags of potassium chloride in your water softener every month. This amount depends on how much is in the bag (40 pounds is most common) and what your water softener manufacturer recommends. For more specific advice, talk to a water softener pro in your area and read the manual that came with your system.
