"First of all, I appreciated that a certified arborist was on our job. We have two beautiful trees in our front yard that needed to be trimmed, thinned and shaped. I appreciated that all of the workers were easy to communicate with and that their service truck looked like someone cared about their image. Attention to details like this gave me assurance that my trees would receive the same attention to detail. I especially liked that an actual, pleasant person answers the phone. If you have trees you care about, call Tree Logic!"

"He cleaned up two shabby trees. Subsequently , I asked home to clean the yard of weeds and trimming shrubs. He did such a great job, I have hired him monthly for upkeep and as needed. Sorry I don’t have photos. Highly recommend this service!"

"Overall very well. The scheduling was great at first then there were a couple of changes one was due to illness. I did have flexibility so it worked out.
The tree service guys were very professional. They did what we wanted and made sure we were happy with the results. We were!

"David was excellent, he was prompt returning my calls and arrived exactly when he said he would to do the work. He advised me my tree was in good shape and really didn't need anything now but should be trimmed before the monsoons. I decided to have him trim the tree now and I feel his price was fair and I would definitely recommend Elder Tree. David is very knowledgeable and I am so glad I found someone to care for our trees!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.

You can shape a cherry tree by trimming vertical branches, dense branches, and intersecting branches. Your personal aesthetic comes into play, as well. If you want to simply thin and shape the tree, you can get away with trimming the aforementioned parts of your cherry tree. If you want to shorten branches, however, consider thinning cuts, which alter the length of the branches while encouraging light penetration, new buds and shoots, and a structurally-sound shape.

Yes, the same rules discussed above apply to your neighbor: They can trim one of your trees as long as they’re only cutting the portion that extends into their property. Your neighbor is not allowed to access your property without permission, nor can they cut past the property line.

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.
