"VKB far exceeded out expectations for our new kitchen design and installation; as well as, the resurfacing and stain/varnish to my existing floors and stairs. My wife and I are very pleased with the final outcome. Money was well spent. Base on our experience, I would not hesitate to recommend their services again. Jack and Suzanne McClinton."

"Devin Nasvaderani (Marel Homes) is, without a doubt, the best contractor with whom I have ever worked. He came into a job that had been royally screwed up by a prior contractor (see review of Stevenson & Sons). He thoroughly inspected the property, prepared a detailed bid, gave us advice on the most important items and delivered a bid that could work with our budget and the existing lender requirements. His entire crew were professional and consciencious. Devin delivered on time, on budget with high quality work. He kept us informed throughout the process. The portico he built is frequently the subject of compliments by our neighbors (and people just driving by). We will use Devin to continue improving our home. He took a nightmare and turned it into the dream home we had hoped for. If you need a great contractor to remodel your home, call Devin at Marvel Homes (the name says it all).

"I would highly recommend this family run company. I had the pleasure of working with the daughter and she ensured the proper contract was in place and answered any of my questions prior to the project beginning. She managed the process seamlessly and ensured she kept proper documentation throughout the process. Then her father and his team begin the work efficiently following through on all aspects of the contract. They even tweaked a few things along the way as I asked. Customer service was delivered on a high level along with quality work. The price point was also fair with warranty on the work prepared. The job was completed on time and mom came in to do a final cleaning of all of the spaces effected by the renovation. I will certainly be doing business with this company again. It is hard to find honest and reliable contractor so I am happy to have found one."

"I did not use this provider. I called them about a project I have that
I now know was more suitable for a Mason.  Mike NIles from Picture Perfect steered
me in the right direction and now I'm working with a couple of Masons to
get my project done.  I more than appreciate Mike's honesty and willingness to
assist me when he really didn't have to.  And as a result of his honesty and professionalism, I will
definitely consider him for future projects.

"Alex was FANTASTIC! He helped us design our kitchen layout and made recommendations. He never tried to oversell us and was very frank...which I have a GREAT appreciation for! He was at the house when the cabinets were being delivered and stopped in during installation. If you have concerns or aren't entirely happy with something he will make it right as quickly as possible. We have worked with a number of contractors and no one has come close to his level of customer service. He even brought us a bottle of wine and cheese when it was finished:)"

"A technician came the same day or following day after I called.  He thought it would be a simple job, but ended up having some trouble and I needed to leave before he was finished.  He was able to call the owner and complete the repair and was gone by the time I got home.
When the company called a few days later, I told them I wasn't quite confident with the technician.  The owner called me back and came out as soon as we could arrange a meeting.  So help me, I think he's the garage door whisperer.  He could tell by feel and sound whether the door was working exactly right.  I asked how long he had been working with garage doors and he said since he was 10.  I enjoyed our conversation and definitely know a lot more about how my door works.
It is so rare to find a company so passionate about both customer service and so well-educated in their craft.  I cannot recommend them enough!

"Bret and his team were fantastic! They took an otherwise blank and empty space and turned it into the basement of our dreams. Everything was done from Framing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, flooring, installing railing and creating a beautiful bathroom and built-ins. From beginning to end, Bret and his team were a dream to work with!"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Costs vary depending on project complexity and scope. Architects generally charge a percentage of the total budget or an hourly rate for their services.

The cost to draw house plans typically ranges from $800 to $2,700, with standard blueprints averaging around $1,800. For a custom home, the cost is higher, with blueprints often falling between $5,000 and $20,000, and potentially more for very complex designs. Several factors influence the total price, including the project's size, the number of rooms, the type of drawings required, and the architect's experience level. You may also need to pay a structural engineer to ensure building safety, particularly for custom homes.

Yes, professionals can offer design advice and material selections that complement existing architecture.

Italianate architecture is a reinterpretation of Renaissance styles, combining elements of Italian farmhouses and villas with Victorian materials and construction. This home style emerged in the Victorian era, gaining popularity in the U.S. in the mid-to late-1800s. The style came about in response to what many then viewed as the too-rigid and stuffy Classical style designs.

It is technically possible to draw your own blueprints, but the process is extremely involved and really demands help from an expert. A professional architect has an understanding of design elements, interior design, the functionality of different rooms in a home, and how everything from furniture, outlets, and light switches should be laid out to serve you and your family best. Hiring an architect for blueprints can get expensive, but it’s the most responsible way to begin a new construction project. If you’re keen on DIYing, you could consider starting the process and then having a professional take over.
