"James & his crew did a great job & completed the job quickly. James is knowledgeable about tree diseases. The crew removed a diseased Oak tree & most likely saved other Oak trees on the property. I recommend J & J Tree Service"

"JP did a wonderful job. He is reliable and takes pride in his work. My wife and I were so impressed with his workmanship that my wife also asked him to remove a tree from our backyard that was growing too close to our house. If you want expert tree service at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend JP’s Tree Service."

"Ortiz Brothers Tree Service was great. Jamie came by and looked at my 4 live oak trees and listened to what I wanted done and then recommended a few other branches that needed to come out. They returned on the date and time we agreed. He and his team did the job quickly, 3 hours. They cleaned all of their equipment before that started and they sealed all of the cuts, due to us having oak wilt in our neighborhood. They cut all of the limbs at the collars, like they should be, not the way the City of Austin's contractors do. They cut out all of the dead wood and thinned out the insides of the canopy. We had them cut a couple of larger low laying branches as well. They managed to get the limbs cut that went over our fence without having to go into our neighbors yards. They only had 2 branches that they could not get this way and removed them from my neighbors yards as well. They cleaned everything up and raked my yard to remove all of the little stuff. Great people to deal with."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

A palm tree's lifespan typically ranges from 40 to 100 years, though some species can live much longer. For example, certain types of Date Palm trees can live for over 200 years. The exact longevity of a palm tree is influenced by several factors, including its species, size, climate, and growing conditions. To maximize your palm's lifespan, provide proper care and maintenance, such as ensuring it gets enough sunlight, water, and nutrients, and protecting it from pests and diseases. For expert maintenance tips, consider consulting a professional arborist.

No, you cannot plant a tree above a gas line. Tree roots grow and spread over time and can sometimes dent, crack, or penetrate a gas line. Those same roots may also cause accessibility problems for maintenance or repairs. You can generally plant vegetation with non-invasive root systems, low-growing vegetation, and flower beds near gas lines.

Yes, you can prune a palm tree with a chainsaw, but a chainsaw is overkill for a job like this. You risk damaging the tree if you make a bad cut. More commonly, you’ll need pruning shears or a serrated knife to trim a palm tree, or you can use a specialized pruning saw instead of a chainsaw.

A few signs a tree may be dead is if the leaves are dead and there are no signs of new blooms. You can also perform a scratch test on some of the branches to check the condition of the cambium layer beneath the bark.

If it is green, it is still alive, but if several are dry, brittle, and brown, the tree may be dying or dead. Always consult an arborist before assuming your tree is dead because you may be able to save it.

Generally, avoid trimming trees in the summer (with the exception of pruning fruit trees as needed). Trees use a lot of energy in the summer, most of which is relegated to new growth. If you chop it too early, you could stunt the next season's growth. Again, when in doubt, do some research based on the specific tree type.
