"I can’t recommend Juan Pablo and his team enough. I don't think I've said "I'm so impressed!" this many times in one day. First, I'll mention the things people tend care about the most. When I called Juan Pablo for an estimate shortly after the wind storm, he responded the same day and was able to come by the next morning. We needed a large Arizona ash, a large hackberry and a medium cedar tree cut down. The ash hung over our neighbor’s property and over our house. The hackberry hung over our back fence. Both of these things made the job more difficult. Juan Pablo provided a clear written estimate the same day. We contracted with him on Tuesday evening, and he confirmed right away for Thursday the same week. Juan Pablo and his team arrived at 8am that day and immediately got to work. They were courteous, professional, and organized. He initially expected the job would take two days, which was reasonable given the size of the trees. Juan Pablo and his team worked nonstop and got the job done in under 8 hours. You can’t even tell his team was here other than the missing trees and some saw dust around the tiny tree stumps left. JP’s Trees Service was the most affordable of the six companies we called for an estimate. Now for the things other people may not care about but are worth mentioning. Watching Juan Pablo work, he is truly a craftsman. The skill and precision with which he worked was beyond impressive. He was also clearly committed to maintaining his safety and that of his team. Everyone wore chainsaw safety clothing, he practiced roping and harness skills that would put many rockclimbers to shame, and was clearly vigilant about spotting where each branch would fall. This may not be a big priority for some people. But I would much rather give my money to someone who runs a responsible operation and looks out for his employees’ safety. We went with Juan Pablo because we liked him and his honest assessment of our trees. The fact that his estimate was the lowest was just a plus. Frankly, I would have paid more for the quality of work done. We will be calling him for any future needs and will happily pay more if he chooses to increase his prices. Also, I'm not sure what the reviewer from 5/2021 is talking about with regards to Juan Pablo's English. I speak fluent Spanish and have no problem switching to Spanish if it's clear English is difficult for the other person. My husband only speaks English. We both had multiple conversations with Juan Pablo in English without any confusion or difficulty whatsoever."

"I have Box Tree service for the past couple of years in Cedar Park. We recently located to Round Mountain and wasnâ t sure if Joshua would be interested in driving an hour or more to trim my trees. He of course said. Yes! My husband and I will continue to use Box Tree service for all the needs we have on our 10 acres."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Carefully pruning small roots no thicker than three inches in diameter won’t harm the tree. However, cutting larger roots may impact the tree's stability and nutrient absorption. It's advisable to consult an arborist or tree care professional to evaluate the root's size, the tree's health, and the potential impact of cutting. Proper tree pruning techniques and timing can minimize damage, but larger root removal may necessitate expert guidance to avoid compromising the tree's overall health and stability.

You’ll have to balance up the cost, the value of the tree (sentimental or otherwise), and the risk factors. An experienced arborist will help you understand whether transplanting is likely to be successful. The cost and hassle of transplanting a large, well-established tree are often not worth it, especially if the species is fast-growing and easy to source. The decision depends on the age and species of the tree, the conditions in the new site location, and how careful the company is when digging out and moving the tree.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

A dead tree should always be cut down, because it could fall and cause injuries or damage, and it can also attract insects like carpenter ants. A tree that’s diseased beyond repair should also be cut down, but it’s not always easy for a homeowner to tell. Signs of disease include dying branches, a hollow trunk, leaning, and discolored or missing leaves, but your best bet is to hire a local arborist who can evaluate the tree and tell you if it can be saved or should be cut down.

Unfortunately, palm tree stumps are one of the most difficult types to remove due to how their roots grow. Unlike other trees, palm tree roots grow horizontally and vertically. Palm tree roots grow as deep as three feet into the ground, although soil and growing conditions could mean they go as far as 50 inches into the earth.

If you want to be able to repurpose the grass in the area where you removed a stump later, you’ll have to dig quite deep—and perhaps wide—to trim away all the roots.
