Small jobs welcome

"I was very pleased with the workmanship and the dedication of his employees to R. It concerns every once in a while. We were able to have the fencing done in 3 days that included all tear out and removal an installation of the new fencing. They're clean up after the job and hauling away all the old material and even some plant life that was cut. Was very good. I highly recommend you give them a call whenever you have a project to do. Because he takes the job very seriously and its employees a very polite and conscientious of the work they do."

"The work went very well. Erik came recommended to me by a neighbor. Erik's bid was very competitive, and with the recommendation, I'm glad we chose to go with him. I went with Erik's advice on the roofing tiles. For much of the project, we relied on email/text/phone, and Erik was easy to work with. Erik and his crew worked very diligently, and the timing was great -- got the job done before the autumn storm season started. Definitely put my mind at ease as the old roof was pretty beat up. I recommend Erik highly."

"Natalie and Vincent were joy to work with and did a professional painting of our exterior large two-story home. Their bid was very reasonable and the customer service was responsive and thoughtful. They put an extra paint coat on our front door, took off fixtures as needed and painted with two coats. They took the time to explain what they were doing. They also provided paint color consultation with Sherman Williams, which made a difference in our satisfaction with the overall look. We highly recommend Cascadia Pro Paint."

"Replaced deteriorated exterior siding where needed, installed several new double pane windows, replaced old carpeting with new hardwood floors, coordinated subcontractors for electrical repairs and interior house painting. All work was done professionally and to our satisfaction. Very impressed with Cody's quality management. He inspected all work by his team as well as the subcontractors to verify that the work was done correctly and to his satisfaction. I can highly recommend Valley Brothers Construction and will call them again if we need further contractor work done on our house."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Hiring a contractor or professional deck refinisher is the best way to ensure your deck is properly stained. They have the expertise, tools, and supplies to do the job quickly and efficiently. However, staining a deck is a manageable task for most homeowners, and doing the job yourself can save money. Just keep in mind that DIY staining is a long process requiring physical strain, so it may not be the best option for everyone.

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

You’ll want to avoid excessively hot or humid conditions, so it’s best to apply your stain in late spring to early fall. It's also important to watch the weather forecast and aim for days when there isn’t rain expected for at least three days. For new decks, allow the wood to season beforehand for at least four to eight weeks.

The best exterior paint for the job of painting your front porch depends on the material you’ll be painting. Acrylic paint is often recommended for a wooden porch as it’s durable and easy to apply. If your porch is made of concrete, you’ll need to find a formula suited to that material.

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.
