"Natalie and Vincent were joy to work with and did a professional painting of our exterior large two-story home. Their bid was very reasonable and the customer service was responsive and thoughtful. They put an extra paint coat on our front door, took off fixtures as needed and painted with two coats. They took the time to explain what they were doing. They also provided paint color consultation with Sherman Williams, which made a difference in our satisfaction with the overall look. We highly recommend Cascadia Pro Paint."

Small jobs welcome

"Davidson painting was on time each day, professional, courteous and even came on the weekend. Price was excellent and paint job came out very nice. The owner Doug was friendly, cleaned up each day and I would highly recommend Davidson painting to anyone. My home value went up more than what the painting cost me. Very happy with the job, thank you!"

"James came ready to do a job to help me be able to walk up and down our stairs since i have a badly injured leg and cannot use the stairs without railings. I might add that we have a 100+ year old Craftsman home and James understood that and his work building and painting the railings shows that he "gets" that we wanted something that matched our historic home. YES, we would hire him again."

Painting questions, answered by experts

Routine staining or sealing and periodic inspections to extend life.

While power washing isn't a requirement before you stain a fence, it can make the job much easier and faster while reducing manual labor requirements. The stain will not work if the wood is full of dirt and dust, so power washing, sometimes called pressure washing, is a fast and effective way to prepare the wood for staining. Remember that you need to stain or repaint relatively soon after the wood has dried so that there isn’t time for dust and dirt to build up again.

Yes, staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan, typically by five to 10 years. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it can still fall victim to moisture, sun exposure, and rot over time. Applying a treatment creates a protective shield that helps prevent splintering, fading, and decay, preserving the wood's strength and appearance. A combination stain and sealer often provides the best protection, as it soaks into the wood grain rather than just sitting on top. This offers superior defense against UV damage and rot and lasts longer than a sealer alone. To maintain the wood's natural look, consider using a near-translucent stain. You should plan to reapply the stain or sealer every two to three years.

A five-gallon bucket of deck stain will cover roughly 875 square feet in a single coat. Actual coverage will vary based on the type of wood you’re staining and the number of coats. If you plan on doing multiple coats, multiply the square footage by the number of coats to calculate how many buckets of stain you’ll need.

Manufacturers use a different process and formula for exterior paint versus interior. The exterior formula has to withstand elements like temperature, UV lighting, moisture, wind, and debris. Interior paint doesn’t need to be as tough, only exposed to dust, scratches, dents, scuff marks, and the like.
