"EXCELLENT! Everyone, everyone--the office staff, the estimator, the team of two plumbers, the electrician--were friendly, professional, courteous, on time, and took the time to thoroughly explain or answer all my questions. They called when they said they would. They did what they said they would. They cleaned the work area when they finished. They are now THE ONLY plumbing, heating and cooling firm I will ever use."

"Mike Jr was very willing to work with me to help keep the cost down. That was greatly appreciated as my income is Social Security and I couldn't afford the cost the big Box store install plumber quoted me for this job. Mike Sr and his helper did an excellent job of installing the new Water Heater and at a reasonable price. I would definitely hire them again if future plumbing work is needed."

"The crew did the job, digging up and replacing 40 ft of main water line from the city line to the house, including installation of a pressure reducing valve. Overall COST was pretty expensive for labor considering the PEX tubing for the water line was the pretty much the only parts needed minus the pressure valve. I realize they go by a book that determines cost before work is actually done, though and I agreed to it. Kinda hard to get other estimates when you are in a pickle and need water in your home going asap during the holidays. Job got done and the 2 workers were nice guys. One complaint is I asked if there was a Veteran's Discount and they did include it but it was LESS THAN a 3% discount off the subtotal. Taking a star off for this and another for high labor cost."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Common mistakes in Santa Fe include neglecting to insulate pipes against winter freezes, using pipe materials not suited for hard water, and failing to obtain proper building permits from the City of Santa Fe Building Department. Ignoring small leaks or using harsh chemical drain cleaners can worsen mineral buildup and damage pipes. Consulting local plumbing professionals and following city guidelines helps prevent these issues.

Helpful?

Most plumbing projects in Santa Fe, such as new installations, water heater replacements, or sewer line repairs, require a building permit from the City of Santa Fe Building Department. Inspections are mandatory at both rough-in and final stages. If your property is in a historic district, the Historic Preservation Division may require additional review to ensure compliance with local guidelines.

Helpful?

In Santa Fe, choosing the right pipe materials is crucial due to the region's mineral-rich, hard water and adobe construction. Copper pipes are highly recommended for their durability and resistance to corrosion, while PEX piping is ideal for flexibility and freeze protection in older homes. The City of Santa Fe Building Department also advises against using galvanized steel or standard PVC, as these materials can deteriorate more quickly in local conditions.

Helpful?

In Santa Fe, homeowners often encounter unexpected expenses when accessing pipes behind thick adobe walls or when local code compliance requires upgraded plumbing materials. The City of Santa Fe Building Department notes that homes in historic districts may require extra steps for approval, which can extend project timelines. Discovering outdated plumbing supplies or insulation materials may also necessitate additional remediation.

Helpful?

Regular maintenance is essential for plumbing systems in Santa Fe due to hard water and seasonal temperature swings. The New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department recommends flushing water heaters twice a year to prevent mineral buildup, checking insulation on exposed pipes before winter, and scheduling periodic sewer line inspections. These steps help protect against freeze damage and extend the lifespan of your plumbing supplies.
