"Very polite. They responded to our request for service quickly and they were very professional. The job was cleaned up and left no trace that they were here. I would totally recommend them to someone needing some plumbing repair or installation in a home."

"We had Babcock build/move a few walls, move our boiler, and move some electrical so our washing machine/dryer could be moved to another room. There was tile flooring done as well. The initial part of the job was fine. But when the subs were involved, things got out of control. The electrician decided to do some things in our boiler room without running it by us. Then a guy adding our dryer duct work decided to do something we explicitly didn't want done. That was fixed, but the more we looked, the more we saw the subs doing whatever they had to do the job quickly, not cleanly. Here we two years later and I am still finding sub-par work - things that make it look *I* did the job on the fly, not a "professional". Examples - the plumber cut out some copper tubing that was part of a heating zone. Rather than copper it back together, he decided to use PEX on a line whose water gets to 200F, above the rating of PEX. He insulated it, however, so one couldn't readily see what he did. Today, admittedly 2 years later, I go into the roof space and find the electrician installed some junction boxes and decided to leave them on the floor. Very quality job work - definitely show up on the next home inspection. Overall Babcock and brothers seemed fine. They choice and oversight of the subs was poor. If you go with them make sure to spec everything out that the subs will do, otherwise they will do it wrong. Fortunately we had them do a relatively small job before a possible kitchen remodel. Glad we didn't have these subs handle a bigger job that needs quality"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Moisture on traditional adobe walls requires careful diagnosis to distinguish plumbing leaks from exterior rain intrusion. Reddish water pointing to corroded indoor pipes means you need a professional. Wet yard spots indicate failing sewer lines or separate irrigation system defects. If you smell gas, treat this as an immediate utility emergency requiring a specialized gas technician rather than standard NM water pipe repairs.

Helpful?

In Espanola, hard water from the Rio Grande causes severe pipe scaling and degrades water heaters. Sub-freezing winter temperatures frequently crack exposed plumbing in unheated garages and crawl spaces. Older adobe homes contain galvanized steel pipes that corrode from the inside out. You should also watch for root intrusion in clay sewer lines and check evaporative cooler connections before the cooling season begins.

Helpful?

Scheduling plumbing in NM requires patience due to a limited local contractor pool and travel times from nearby cities. High demand during winter freezes and fall winterization extends wait times significantly. Once a professional arrives, water heater replacements take a single day, while repiping older homes takes two to five days. Permit processing for major repairs adds several days to the total project timeline.

Helpful?

Thorough plumbing in Espanola includes proper freeze protection, like insulation on vulnerable exterior pipes. Professionals accommodate local hard water by applying appropriate joint preparation to prevent scale buildup. Before closing walls, the contractor must conduct a pressure test to verify secure connections. A signed-off permit and an active state license confirm the work meets safety standards. Water discoloration clears quickly after proper pipe flushing.

Helpful?

Cosmetic plumbing, like swapping a faucet, requires no permits and finishes quickly. Functional repairs, such as repiping or fixing freeze damage, demand permits and municipal inspections. In older Espanola adobe homes, surface issues like stained walls frequently hide deep functional problems, such as corroded galvanized lines. A local professional probes beneath these cosmetic symptoms to address the true underlying failure before treating the surface.
