"My first meeting with Marcos @ Absolute M and G was July 27th. I had searched Home Advisor reviews and saw he was the best and one review even said there is no need to search further. We would have saved 2-3 weeks had we paid attention to this. I had not even chosen stone so he gave an estimated, all inclusive quote. I was sold from the first meeting, however, my husband insisted we have 3 quotes minimum, to see for himself. Even though 1 quote was lower, we felt much more comfortable with Marcos so we booked him for the install. The granite I chose has a lot of movement. I mentioned to Marcos that I would like to see the darker tones near the cooktop. He does this all the time, is good at it and is a very meticulous fabricator. He arranged it all without further input from me and I have a seamless install, which is what I wanted all along. My kitchen looks fabulous!!! Marcos is very trustworthy, a perfectionist and wants you to be completely happy and satisfied. He and his team of Felipe and Lucas are easy to work with, very precise and determined to do the best job for you. We will use them again for other areas in our home and I highly recommend their services if you are looking for someone to install solid surface/stone countertops in your home. Mark the plumber did an excellent job, as well, completing the sink plumbing on the second day. Everything was completed in 2 days, by August 28th."

"The service is excellent. They came in and provided a designer to work with me to get what I wanted. I was very impressed with the quality of the tile, the implementation, and the materials. The team on the job are pleasant to work with and did not make a mess on the house."

"Salesman Bob Wood was wonderfully helpful - no upselling, no pressure, provided multiple options for everything. The install was able to take place very quickly - Pedro D., Joel T., and Alex did the install in a single day as promised. They were professional, friendly, very respectful of my home and even patched up the surrounding tile from the main bathroom. The new shower is beautiful - very happy I decided to move ahead. Financing was easy as well. I would (and have!) recommended them to family and friends - will use them again for any future projects."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.

Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.

Tiling can be DIY with the right tools and skills, but challenges like ensuring evenness and appropriate adhesion often warrant professional handling.

Like any painted surface, tile paint can peel and chip over time. However, tile paint can become especially susceptible to peeling during periods of high humidity. Other sources of excess moisture will also cause tile paint to peel faster than normal. And if the tiles are in a high-traffic area, like the entryway floor, tile paint will chip and peel faster.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.
