"This was the best electrical service company we could have chosen. They were professional, they were friendly. They gave us the details and facts and did not try to sell us anything we did not need, but instead gave us options and explained things very clearly. ALB scheduled us immediately, they arrived the next morning with plenty of crew and had the issue fixed within 2hours. I have never been more impressed with how professional and punctual they were. When the job was done they made sure to come back out wait for the inspector. They helped us get in touch with the power company and had our power back on the SAME day. I will suggest and recommend ALB for all our electrical work in our home. They were affordable and reasonable. Thank you ALB."

"Mo from Ewing did a very good job. All the work was cleanly done & very tidy & professional. He showed up the day after calling & gave a much more reasonable quote for all the electrical work then Roby Electric did. He was able to fit me in the schedule the next day. & did everything in about 6 hours. If i ever need more work i will definitely call Ewing & will recommend to my neighbors."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, the majority of appliances that run at 240v will work with a 220v outlet, but will often run slower and may have a slight delay in turning on. This could also cause long term damage to the appliance being used, so it’s recommended to always use the correct voltage for your appliance and upgrade to a 240v outlet if needed.

While washers and dryers do not require a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlet to function properly, electrical codes often mandate their use for safety. The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires GFCI protection for all outlets within six feet of a water source. This means a washer and dryer must be plugged into a GFCI outlet if they are installed in locations like a laundry room, utility room, garage, or basement. In other areas without a nearby water source, there is no specific requirement, but using a GFCI outlet is still recommended for extra peace of mind. It is always best to consult your local codes and regulations to ensure compliance and safety.

On average, the cost to wire a new home ranges from $2 to $5 per square foot. The cost to rewire a house is around the same, ranging from $2 to $4 per square foot. Often, though, new wiring comes with lower overall costs since it’s much easier to access a home’s foundation.

There is no blanket figure for a residential home’s electrical load, since load varies by the size of the home, how many appliances are used, and the efficiency of their electrical systems. Typically, however, it’s safe to assume 40 to 60 amps is the average electrical load of a residential home.

That depends on your setup. If a circuit breaker already has GFCI protection, then everything connected to that specific circuit is being monitored. You don’t need additional GFCI outlets on that breaker.

However, if the breaker is not GFCI, then you should have GFCI receptacles for at-risk outlets nearby water sources, because they are not receiving protection. Breakers in a breaker box can vary between GFCI and non-GFCI. Look for GFCI labels on the breaker or try to find the breaker model number to look it up if you aren’t sure.
